The opening of the New World brought with it both fortune-seekers and religous
preachers desiring to convert the native populations to the Christian faith.
One of the converts was a poor Aztec indian named Juan Diego. On one of his
trips to the chapel, Juan was walking through the Tepayac hill country in
central Mexico. Near Tepayac Hill he encountered a beautiful woman surrounded
by a ball of light as bright as the sun. Speaking in his native tongue, the
beautiful lady identified herself:
"My dear little son, I love you. I desire you to know who I am. I am
the ever-virgin Mary, Mother of the true God who gives life and maintains
its existence. He created all things. He is in all places. He is Lord of
Heaven and Earth. I desire a church in this place where your people may
experience my compassion. All those who sincerely ask my help in their work
and in their sorrows will know my Mother's Heart in this place. Here I will
see their tears; I will console them and they will be at peace. So run now
to Tenochtitlan and tell the Bishop all that you have seen and heard."
Juan, age 57, and who had never been to Tenochtitlan, nonetheless immediately
responded to Mary's request. He went to the palace of the Bishop-elect Fray
Juan de Zumarraga and requested to meet immediatly with the bishop. The bishop's
servants, who were suspicious of the rural peasant, kept him waiting for
hours. The bishop-elect told Juan that he would consider the request of the
Lady and told him he could visit him again if he so desired. Juan was
disappointed by the bishop's response and felt himself unworthy to persuade
someone as important as a bishop. He returned to the hill where he had first
met Mary and found her there waiting for him. Imploring her to send someone
else, she responded:
"My little son, there are many I could send. But you are the one I have
chosen."
She then told him to return the next day to the bishop and repeat the request.
On Sunday, after again waiting for hours, Juan met with the bishop who, on
re-hearing his story, asked him to ask the Lady to provide a sign as a proof
of who she was. Juan dutifully returned to the hill and told Mary, who was
again waiting for him there, of the bishop's request. Mary responded:
"My little son, am I not your Mother? Do not fear. The Bishop shall have
his sign. Come back to this place tomorrow. Only peace, my little son."
Unfortunately, Juan was not able to return to the hill the next day. His
uncle had become mortally ill and Juan stayed with him to care for him. After
two days, with his uncle near death, Juan left his side to find a priest.
Juan had to pass Tepayac Hill to get to the priest. As he was passing, he
found Mary waiting for him. She spoke:
"Do not be distressed, my littlest son. Am I not here with you who am
your Mother? Are you not under myshadow and protection? Your uncle will not
die at this time. There is no reason for you to engage a priest, for his
health is restored at this moment. He is quite well. Go to the top of the
hill and cut the flowers that are growing there. Bring them then to me."
While it was freezing on the hillside, Juan obeyed Mary's instructions and
went to the top of the hill where he found a full bloom of Castilian roses.
Removing his tilma, a poncho-like cape made of cactus fiber, he cut the roses
and carried them back to Mary. She rearranged the roses and told him:
"My little son, this is the sign I am sending to the Bishop. Tell him
that with this sign I request his greatest efforts to complete the church
I desire in this place. Show these flowers to no one else but the Bishop.
You are my trusted ambassador. This time the Bishop will believe all you
tell him."
At the palace, Juan once again came before the bishop and several of his
advisors. He told the bishop his story and opened the tilma letting the flowers
fall out. But it wasn't the beautiful roses that caused the bishop and his
advisors to fall to their knees; for there, on the tilma, was a picture of
the Blessed Virgin Mary precisely as Juan had described her. The next day,
after showing the Tilma at the Cathedral, Juan took the bishop to the spot
where he first met Mary. He then returned to his village where he met his
uncle who was completely cured. His uncle told him he had met a young woman,
surrounded by a soft light, who told him that she had just sent his nephew
to Tenochtitlan with a picture of herself. She told his uncle:
"Call me and call my image Santa Maria de Guadalupe".
It's believed that the word Guadalupe was actually a Spanish mis-translation
of the local Aztec dialect. The word that Mary probably used was
Coatlallope which means "one who treads on snakes"! Within six years
of this apparition, six million Aztecs had converted to Catholicism. The
tilma shows Mary as the God-bearer - she is pregnant with her Divine Son.
Since the time the tilma was first impressed with a picture of the Mother
of God, it has been subject to a variety of environmental hazards including
smoke from fires and candles, water from floods and torrential downpours
and, in 1921, a bomb which was planted by anti-clerical forces on an altar
under it. There was also a cast-iron cross next to the tilma and when the
bomb exploded, the cross was twisted out of shape, the marble altar rail
was heavily damaged and the tilma was...untouched! Indeed, no one was injured
in the Church despite the damage that occurred to a large part of the altar
structure.
In 1977, the tilma was examined using infrared photography and digital
enhancement techniques. Unlike any painting, the tilma shows no sketching
or any sign of outline drawn to permit an artist to produce a painting. Further,
the very method used to create the image is still unknown. The image is
inexplicable in its longevity and method of production. It can be seen today
in a large cathedral built to house up to ten thousand worshipers. It is,
by far, the most popular religious pilgrimage site in the Western Hemisphere.

Bernadette Soubirous V (RM)
(also known as Mary Bernarda Soubirous)
Born in Lourdes, France, January 7, 1844; died in Nevers, France, on April
16, 1879; canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1933; also honored on February 18
in France.
Marie Bernarde (called Bernadette by family and friends) Soubirous, was the
oldest of six children born to the impoverished miller François Soubirous,
and his much-younger wife, Louise Casterot. The family lived in the basement
of a damp building in the rue des Petits Fossés after her father rented
a mill of his own. Bernadette was not a strong child; the dampness of their
home and the vestiges of the cholera she contracted in 1854 aggravated
the asthma and other ailments from which the young girl suffered.
"I am the Immaculate Conception"
At age 14, she was considered to be ailing, undersized, of pleasant disposition,
sensitive, and a slow student--even stupid--but was a kind, helpful and obedient
child.
On February 11, 1858, the teenaged Bernadette was collecting scraps of wood
on the bank of the River Gave when she was initially granted a vision of
the Blessed Virgin, who did not identify herself at first. For the next six
months Bernadette saw a light-enhaloed female form of indescribable beauty,
near a cave in the Massabielle cliff. In total, Bernadette had 18 visions
of the Virgin Mary at the grotto, which principally concerned prayer and
penance.
Bernadette showed people the grotto in which the BVM appeared. Most of them
mocked her but from February 18 until March 4, Bernadette continued to see
and talk with Our Lady every day. The clerical and civic officials who subjected
Bernadette to numerous interrogations found her to be veracious and completely
disinterested in self-advancement.
People followed Bernadette. The saw the girl fall into ecstasy; they heard
her speak, but they saw nothing. The unknown 'lady' said to Bernadette: "I
wish to see people here"; "Pray for sinners"; "Tell the priests I wish to
have a chapel here"; "Processions are to come here"; "Go, drink from the
spring and wash in its water."
In obedience to this last injunction, the saint dug with her hands into the
earth of the grotto, and there gushed forth a spring, unknown until that
day--February 25, that for years has yielded 27,000 gallons weekly. Cures
effected by drinking of the water mobilized pilgrimages of thousands which
streamed to the grotto.
By March 4, about 200,000 people were accompanying Bernadette to the site.
When Bernadette begged the lady for a name on March 25, she replied three
times using the local dialect: "I am the Immaculate Conception--" a name
that the girl did not understand because word of the definition had not yet
reached the people of Lourdes. The last vision occurred on July 16, the Feast
of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The Church met these beginnings of the Lourdes pilgrimages with great reserve,
almost with hostility. In part this was because after the appearances ceased,
there was an epidemic of copycat visionaries and morbid religiosity in the
district, which increased the reserved attitude of the church authorities
towards Bernadette's experiences.
But Lourdes became a symbol. In an age in which the existence of or at all
events the possibility of knowing a supra-mundane God was denied, a permanent
medical bureau had to be opened in Lourdes, which has collected, with the
help of thousands of physicians of all creeds, an immense documentation of
professionally attested, inexplicable cures.
Bernadette's simplicity and integrity were never questioned. Although the
publicity that accompanied her visions had helped her father to find work,
Bernadette gained little more than the spiritual consolation of a few months.
For some years she suffered greatly from the suspicious disbelief of some
and the tactless enthusiasm and insensitive attentions of others; these trials
she bore with impressive patience and dignity. She resided with the
nuns at the hospice for five years (1861-1866) in order to escape the publicity,
but people sought her out even there.
In 1866 Bernadette joined the Sister of Notre-Dame at Saint Gildard in Nevers,
France; she had wished for entrance two years earlier but had been prevented
by bad health. She was happy with the nuns. Her health remained fragile,
and she was given the last sacraments within four months of her arrival;
she was allowed to take her first vows through a special dispensation. She
recovered, however, and worked first as an infirmarian and later as a sacristan.
Here she was more sheltered from trying publicity, but not from the 'stuffiness'
of the convent superiors nor from the tightening grip of asthma. "I am getting
on with my joy," she would say. "What is that?" someone asked. "Being ill,"
was the reply.
The nuns, disappointed by the simplicity of this child of nature, in whom
they had expected to find a second Teresa of Ávila or another Catherine
of Siena, made the peasant girl feel bitterly the scant esteem in which they
held her; and even her superiors, with the aim of protecting the visionary
of Lourdes from the sin of pride, were not sparing in humiliations.
With the excuse that she was a "stupid, good-for-nothing little thing," her
profession was continually delayed. God gave to the despised creature, who
was punished for 13 years because of her visions, the strength to say: "You
see, my story is quite simple. The Virgin made use of me, then I was put
into a corner. That is now my place. There I am happy and there I remain."
Thus, she lived out her self-effacing life, dying at the age of 35 as did
Saint Benedict Labre. The events of 1858 resulted in Lourdes becoming one
of the most important pilgrim shrines in the history of Christendom, ending
with the consecration of the basilica in 1876. But Saint Bernadette took
no part in these developments; nor was it for her visions that she was canonized,
but for the humble simplicity and religious trust that characterized her
whole life (Attwater, Benedictines, Bentley, Delaney, Encyclopedia, Farmer,
Sandhurst, Schamoni, Trochu, Walsh, White).
Saint Bernadette is the patron saint of shepherds (White).

THE MIRACLE OF FATIMA
On May 13, 1917, three girls in Portugal were in the meadows of a place called
Cova da Iria outside of Fatima, Portugal, when they
saw a flash of light in the clear sky. They ran for shelter under a tree,
thinking that was lightning. When they reached the tree, they stopped in
amazement, for there hovering just above a 3-foot evergreen nearby, a brilliant
globe of light hung suspended.
Within this globe there was an entity garbed in a luminous white robe with
a face of light which dazzled and hurt the eyes.
The figure stated that it was from heaven, and asked the girls to come there
on the 13th day, for six months in succession.
On October 13, 1917, an estimated 70,000 people had gathered at the site.
Suddenly the crowd screamed, for something came through the clouds: a huge
silver disk which rotated rapidly as it descended towards the crowd. It seemed
to change color, going through the spectrum. These gyrations continued for
ten minutes.Miles from there, others were also watching the same object.
The incident at Fatima was obviously a carefully planned and deliberately
executed demonstration. The major prophecies of Fatima had been written down
and sealed in an envelope, and turned over to the Vatican. They were supposed
to be revealed to the world in 1960. The secret of Fatima? One Pope was murdered
after only 30 days in office when the Vatican thought he would reveal it.
It is said to be a prediction of the end of the world.

The Story of the Apparitions of Fatima
Prologue
Now, Your Excellency, we come to the most difficult part of all that you
have commanded me to put in writing. First of all, Your Excellency has expressly
required of me to write about the Apparitions of the Angel, puffing down
every circumstance and detail, and even, as far as possible, their interior
effects upon us. Then, along comes Dr. Galamba to ask you to command me also
to write about the Apparitions of Our Lady.
"Command her, Your Excellency," he said a little while ago in Valenca. "Yes,
Your Excellency, command her to write everything, absolutely everything.
She'll have to do the rounds of purgatory many a time for having kept silent
about so many things!"
As for purgatory, I am not in the least afraid of it, from this point of
view. I have always obeyed, and obedience deserves neither penalty nor
punishment. Firstly, I obeyed the interior inspirations of the Holy Spirit,
and secondly, I obeyed the commands of those who spoke to me in His name.
This very thing was the first order and counsel which God deigned to give
me through Your Excellency. Happy and content, I recalled the words I had
heard long ago from the lips of that holy priest, the Vicar of Torres Novas:
"The secret of the King's daughter should remain hidden in the depths of
her heart." Then, beginning to penetrate their meaning, I said: "My secret
is for myself." But now, I can no longer say so. Immolated on the altar of
obedience, I say rather: "My secret belongs to God. I have placed it in His
hands; may He do with it as best pleases Him."
Dr. Galamba said then: "Your Excellency, command her to say everything,
everything, and to hide nothing." And Your Excellency, assisted most certainly
by the Holy Spirit, pronounced this judgement: "No, I will not command that!
I will have nothing to do with matters of secrets."
Thanks be to God! Any other order would have been for me a source of endless
perplexities and scruples. Had I received a contrary command, I would have
asked myself, times without number: "Whom should I obey? God or His
representative?" And perhaps, being unable to come to a decision, I would
have been left in a state of real inner torment!
Then Your Excellency continued speaking in God's name: "Sister, write down
the Apparitions of the Angel and of Our Lady, because, my dear Sister, this
is for the glory of God and of Our Lady.,,
How good God is! He is the God of peace, and it is along Paths of peace that
He leads those who trust in Him.
I shall begin, then, my new task, and thus fulfil the commands received from
Your Excellency as well as the desires of Rev. Dr. Galamba. With the exception
of that part of the Secret which I am not permitted to reveal at present,
I shall say everything. I shall not knowingly omit anything, though I suppose
I may forget just a few small details of minor importance.
Apparitions of the Angel
Although I cannot give the exact date, it seems to me that it was in 1915
that the first Apparition took place.
As far as I can judge, it was the Angel, although at that time he did not
venture to make himself fully known.
From what I can recall of the weather, I think that this must have happened
between the months of April and October in the year 1915.
My three companions from Casa Velha, by name Teresa Matias and her sister
Maria Rosa, and Maria Justino, were with me on the southern slope of the
Cabego. We were just about to start praying the Rosary when I saw, poised
in the air above the trees that stretched down to the valley which lay at
our feet, what appeared to be a cloud in human form, whiter than snow and
almost transparent. My companions asked me what it was. I replied that I
did not know. This happened on two further occasions, but on different days.
This Apparition made a certain impression upon me, which I do not know how
to explain. Little by little, this impression faded away, and were it not
for the events that followed, I think I would have forgotten it completely.
The dates I cannot set down with certainty, because, at that time, I did
not know how to reckon the years, the months, or even the days of the week.
But I think it must have been in the spring of 1916 that the Angel appeared
to us for the first time in our Loca do Cabego.
As I have already written in my account of Jacinta, we climbed the hillside
in search of shelter. After having taken our lunch and said our prayers,
we began to see, some distance off, above the trees that stretched away towards
the east, a light, whiter than snow, in the form of a young man, transparent,
and brighter than crystal pierced by the rays of the sun. As he drew nearer,
we could distinguish his features more and more clearly. We were surprised,
absorbed, and struck dumb with amazement.
On reaching us, he said: "Do not be afraid. I am the Angel of Peace. Pray
with me."
Kneeling on the ground, he bowed down until his forehead touched the earth.
Led by a supernatural impulse, we did the same, and repeated the words >
which we heard him say:
"My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for
those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You!"
Having repeated these words three times, he rose and said:
"Pray thus. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your
supplications." Then he disappeared.
The supernatural atmosphere which enveloped us was so intense, that we were
for a long time scarcely aware of our own existence, remaining in the same
posture in which he had left us, and continually repeating the same prayer.
The presence of God made itself felt so intimately and so intensely that
we did not even venture to speak to one another. Next day, we were still
immersed in this spiritual atmosphere, which only gradually began to disappear.
It did not occur to us to speak about this Apparition, nor did we think of
recommending that it be kept secret. The very Apparition itself imposed secrecy.
It was so intimate, that it was not easy to speak of it at all. The impression
it made upon us was all the greater perhaps, in that it was the first such
manifestation that we had experienced.
The second Apparition must have been at the height of summer, when the heat
of the day was so intense that we had to take the sheep home before noon
and only let them out again in the early evening.
We went to spend the siesta hours in the shade of the trees which surrounded
the well that I have already mentioned several times. Suddenly, we saw the
same Angel right beside us.
"What are you doing?" he asked. "Pray! Pray very much!
The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you. Offer prayers
and sacrifices constantly to the Most High."
"How are we to make sacrifices?" I asked.
"Make of everything you can a sacrifice, and offer it to God as an act of
reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for
the conversion of sinners. You will thus draw down peace upon your country.
I am its Angel Guardian, the Angel of Portugal. Above all, accept and bear
with submission, the suffering which the Lord will send you."
These words were indelibly impressed upon our minds. They were like a light
which made us understand who God is, how He loves us and desires to be loved,
the value of sacrifice, how pleasing it is to Him and how, on account of
it, He grants the grace of conversion to sinners. It was for this reason
that we began, from then on, to offer to the Lord all that mortified us,
without, however, seeking out other forms of mortification and penance, except
that we remained for hours on end with our foreheads touching the ground,
repeating the prayer the Angel had taught us.
It seems to me that the third Apparition must have been in October, or towards
the end of September, as we were no longer returning home for siesta.
As I have already written in my account of Jacinta, we went one day from
Pregueira (a small olive grove belonging to my parents) to the Lapa, making
our way along the slope of the hill on the side facing Aljustrel and Casa
Velha. We said our Rosary there and the prayer the Angel had taught us at
the first Apparition.
Lucia's Last Vision
While we were there, the Angel appeared to us for the third time, holding
a chalice in his hands, with a host above it from which some drops of blood
were falling into the sacred vessel. Leaving the chalice and the host suspended
in the air, the Angel prostrated on the ground and repeated this prayer three
times:
"Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly,
and I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus
Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the
outrages, sacrileges and indifference with which He Himself is offended.
And, through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate
Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners."
Then, rising, he once more took the chalice and the host in his hands. He
gave the host to me, and to Jacinta and Francisco he gave the contents of
the chalice to drink, saying as he did so: "Take and drink the Body and Blood
of Jesus Christ, horribly outraged by ungrateful men. Repair their crimes
and console your God. Once again, he prostrated on the ground and repeated
with us three times more, the same prayer "Most Holy Trinity...", and then
disappeared.
Impelled by the power of the supernatural that enveloped us, we imitated
all that the Angel had done, prostrating ourselves on the ground as he did
and repeating the prayers that he said. The force of the presence of God
was so intense that it absorbed us and almost completely annihilated us.
It seemed to deprive us even of the use of our bodily senses for a considerable
length of time. During those days, we performed all our exterior actions
as though guided by that same supernatural being who was impelling us thereto.
The peace and happiness which we felt were great, but wholly interior, for
our souls were completely immersed in God. The physical exhaustion that came
over us was also great.
Lucia's Silence
I do not know why, but the Apparitions of Our Lady produced in us very different
effects. We felt the same intimate joy, the same peace and happiness, but
instead of physical prostration, an expansive ease of movement; instead of
this annihilation in the Divine Presence, a joyful exultation; instead of
the difficulty in speaking, we felt a certain communicative enthusiasm. Despite
these feelings, however, we felt inspired to be silent, especially concerning
certain things.
Whenever I was interrogated, I experienced an interior inspiration which
directed me how to answer, without either failing in truth or revealing what
should remain hidden for the time being. In this respect, I still have just
this one doubt: "Should I not have said everything in the canonical enquiry?"
But I have no scruples about having kept silence, because at that time I
had as yet no realization of the importance of this particular interrogation.
I regarded it, at the time, as being just like the many other interrogations
to which I was accustomed. The only thing I thought strange was the order
to take the oath. But as it was my confessor who told me to do so, and as
I was swearing to the truth, I took the oath without any difficulty. Little
did I suspect, at that moment, that the devil would make the most of this,
in order to torment me with endless scruples later on. But, thank God, all
that is over now.
There was yet another reason which confirmed me in my conviction that I did
well to remain silent. In the course of the canonical enquiry, one of the
interrogators, Rev. Dr. Marques dos Santos, thought he could extend somewhat
his questionnaire, and began therefore to ask more searching questions. Before
answering, I looked enquiringly at my confessor. His Reverence saved me from
my predicament, and answered on my behalf. He reminded the interrogator that
he was exceeding his rights in this matter.
Almost the same thing happened when I was questioned by Rev. Dr. Fischer.
He had the authorization of Your Excellency and of Rev. Mother Provincial,
and seemed to have the right to question me on everything. But, thank God,
he came accompanied by my confessor. At a given moment, he put to me a carefully
studied question about the Secret. I felt perplexed, and did not know how
to answer. I glanced towards my confessor; he understood me and answered
for me. The interrogator understood also, and confined himself to picking
up some magazines lying nearby and holding them in front of my face. In this
way, God was showing me that the moment appointed by Him had not yet arrived.
I shall now go on to write about the Apparitions of Our Lady. I shall not
delay over the circumstances that preceded or followed them, since Rev. Dr.
Galamba has kindly dispensed me from doing so.
The 13 of June, 1917
As soon as Jacinta, Francisco and I had finished praying the Rosary, with
a number of other people who were present, we saw once more the flash reflecting
the light which was approaching (which we called lightning). The next moment,
Our Lady was there on the holmoak, exactly the same as in May.
"What do you want of me?" I asked.
"I wish you to come here on the 13th of next month, to pray the Rosary every
day, and to learn to read. Later, I will tell you what I want."
I asked for the cure of a sick person.
"If he is converted, he will be cured during the year."
"I would like to ask you to take us to heaven."
"Yes. I will take Jacinta and Francisco soon. But you are to stay here some
time longer. Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved.
He wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart."
"Am I to stay here alone?" I asked, sadly.
"No, my daughter. Are you suffering a great deal? Don't lose heart. I will
never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that
will lead you to God."
As Our Lady spoke these last words, she opened her hands and for the second
time, she communicated to us the rays of that same immense light. We saw
ourselves in this light, as it were, immersed in God. Jacinta and Francisco
seemed to be in that part of the light which rose towards heaven, and I in
that which was poured out on the earth. In front of the palm of Our Lady's
right hand was a heart encircled by thorns which pierced it. We understood
that this was the Immaculate Heart of Mary, outraged by the sins of humanity,
and seeking reparation.
You know now, Your Excellency, what we referred to when we said that Our
Lady had revealed a secret to us in June. At the time, Our Lady did not tell
us to keep it secret, but we felt moved to do so by God.
The 13 of July, 1917
A few moments after arriving at the Cova da Iria, near the holmoak, where
a large number of people were praying the Rosary, we saw the flash of light
once more, and a moment later Our Lady appeared on the holmoak.
"What do you want of me? I asked.
"I want you to come here on the 13th of next month, to continue to pray the
Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, in order to obtain peace
for the world and the end of the war, because only she can help you."
"I would like to ask you to tell us who you are, and to work a miracle so
that everybody will believe that you are appearing to us."
"Continue to come here every month. In October, I will tell you who I am
and what I want, and I will perform a miracle for all to see and believe."
I then made some requests, but I cannot recall now just what they were. What
I do remember is that Our Lady said it was necessary for such people to pray
the Rosary in order to obtain these graces during the year.
And she continued:
"Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially whenever
you make some sacrifice: O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion
of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate
Heart of Mary."
As Our Lady spoke these last words, she opened her hands once more, as she
had done during the two previous months. The rays of light seemed to penetrate
the earth, and we saw as it were a sea of fire. Plunged in this fire were
demons and souls in human form, like transparent burning embers, all blackened
or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration, now raised into
the air by the flames that issued from within themselves together with great
clouds of smoke, now falling back on every side like sparks in huge fires,
without weight or equilibrium, amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair,
which horrified us and made us tremble with fear. (It must have been this
sight which caused me to cry out, as people say they heard me). The demons
could be distinguished by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful
and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals. Terrified
and as if to plead for succour, we looked up at Our Lady, who said to us,
so kindly and so sadly:
"You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God
wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what
I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The
war is going to end; but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one
will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined
by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that
he is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine,
and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.
"To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my
Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.
If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace;
if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and
persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will
have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my
Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to
me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the
world. In Portugal, the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved; etc...
Do not tell this to anybody. Francisco, yes, you may tell him.
"When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery: O my Jesus, forgive us,
save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those
who are most in need."
After this, there was a moment of silence, and then I asked:
"Is there anything more that you want of me?"
"No, I do not want anything more of you today."
Then, as before Our Lady began to ascend towards the east, until she finally
disappeared in the immense distance of the firmament.
The 13th of August, 1917
As I have already said what happened on this day, I will not delay over it
here, but pass on to the Apparition which, in my opinion, took place on the
15th in the afternoon. As at that time I did not yet know how to reckon the
days on the month, it could be that I am mistaken. But I still have an idea
that it took place on the very day that we arrived back from Vila Nova de
Ourem.
I was accompanied by Francisco and his brother John. We were with the sheep
in a place called Valinhos, when we felt something supernatural approaching
and enveloping us. Suspecting that Our Lady was about to appear to us, and
feeling sorry lest Jacinta might miss seeing her, we asked her brother to
go and call her. As he was unwilling to go, I offered him two small coins,
and off he ran.
Meanwhile, Francisco and I saw the flash of light, which we called lightning.
Jacinta arrived, and a moment later, we saw Our Lady on a holmoak tree.
"What do you want of me?"
"I want you to continue going to the Cova da Iria on the 13th, and to continue
praying the Rosary every day. In the last month, I will perform a miracle
so that all may believe."
"What do you want done with the money that the people leave in the Cova da
Iria?"
"Have two litters made. One is to be carried by you and Jacinta and two other
girls dressed in white; the other one is to be carried by Francisco and three
other boys. The money from the litters is for the "festa" of Our Lady of
the Rosary, and what is left over will help towards the construction of a
chapel that is to be built here."
"I would like to ask you to cure some sick persons."
"Yes, I will cure some of them during the year."
Then, looking very sad, Our Lady said:
"Pray, pray very much, and make sacrifices for sinners; for many souls go
to hell, because there are none to sacrifice themselves and to pray for them."
And she began to ascend as usual towards the east.
The 13th of September, 1917
As the hour approached, I set out with Jacinta and Francisco, but owing to
the crowds around us we could only advance with difficulty. The roads were
packed with people, and everyone wanted to see us and speak to us. There
was no human respect whatsoever. Simple folk, and even ladies and gentlemen,
struggled to break through the crowd that pressed around us. No sooner had
they reached us than they threw themselves on their knees before us, begging
us to place their petitions before Our Lady. Others who could not get close
to us shouted from a distance:
"For the love of God, ask Our Lady to cure my son who is a cripple!" Yet
another cried out: "And to cure mine who is blind!... To cure mine who is
deaf!... To bring back my husband, my son, who has gone to the war!... To
convert a sinner!... To give me back my health as I have tuberculosis!" and
so on.
All the afflictions of poor humanity were assembled there. Some climbed up
to the tops of trees and walls to see us go by, and shouted down to us. Saying
yes to some, giving a hand to others and helping them up from the dusty ground,
we managed to move forward, thanks to some gentlemen who went ahead and opened
a passage for us through the multitude.
Now, when I read in the New Testament about those enchanting scenes of Our
Lord's passing through Palestine, I think of those which Our Lord allowed
me to witness, while yet a child, on the poor roads and lanes from Aljustrel
to Fatima and on to the Cova da Iria! I give thanks to God, offering Him
the faith of our good Portuguese people, and I think: "If these people so
humbled themselves before three poor children, just because they were mercifully
granted the grace to speak to the Mother of God, what would they not do it
they saw Our Lord Himself in person before them?"
Well, none of this was called for here! It was a distraction of my pen, leading
me away where I did not mean to go. But, never mind! It's just another useless
digression. I am not tearing it out, so as not to spoil the notebook.
At last, we arrived at the Cova da Iria, and on reaching the holmoak we began
to say the Rosary with the people. Shortly afterwards, we saw the flash of
light, and then Our Lady appeared on the holmoak.
"Continue to pray the Rosary in order to obtain the end of the war. In October
Our Lord will come, as well as Our lady of Dolours and Our Lady of Carmel.
Saint Joseph will appear with the Child Jesus to bless the world. God is
pleased with your sacrifices. He does not want you to sleep with the rope
on, but only to wear it during the daytime."
"I was told to ask you many things, the cure of some sick people, of a
deaf-mute..."
"Yes, I will cure some, but not others. In October I will perform a miracle
so that all may believe."
Then Our lady began to rise as usual, and disappeared.
The 13th of October, 1917
We left home quite early, expecting that we would be delayed along the way.
Masses of people thronged the roads. The rain fell in torrents. My mother,
her heart torn with uncertainty as to what was going to happen, and fearing
it would be the last day of my life, wanted to accompany me.
On the way, the scenes of the previous month, still more numbers and moving,
were repeated. Not even the muddy roads could prevent these people from kneeling
in the most humble and suppliant of attitudes. We reached the holmoak in
the Cova da Iria. Once there, moved by an interior impulse, I asked the people
to shut their umbrellas and say the Rosary. A little later, we saw the flash
of light, and then Our Lady appeared on the holmoak.
"What do you want of me?"
"I want to tell you that a chapel is to be built here in my honor. I am the
Lady of the Rosary. Continue always to pray the Rosary every day. The war
is going to end, and the soldiers will soon return to their homes."
"I have many things to ask you: the cure of some sick persons, the conversion
of sinners, and other things..."
"Some yes, but not others. They must amend their lives and ask forgiveness
for their sins."
Looking very say, Our Lady said:
"Do not offend the Lord our God any more, because He is already so much
offended."
Then, opening her hands, she made them reflect on the sun, and as she ascended,
the reflection of her own light continued to be projected on the sun itself.
Here, Your Excellency, is the reason why I cried out to the people to look
at the sun. My aim was not to call their attention to the sun, because I
was not even aware of their presence. I was moved to do so under the guidance
of an interior impulse.
After Our Lady had disappeared into the immense distance of the firmament,
we beheld St. Joseph with the Child Jesus and Our Lady robed white with a
blue mantle, beside the sun. St. Joseph and the Child Jesus appeared to bless
the world, for they traced the Sign of the Cross with their hands. When,
a little later, this apparition disappeared, I saw Our Lord and Our Lady;
it seemed to me that it was Our Lady of Dolours. Our Lord appeared to bless
the world in the same manner as St. Joseph had done. This apparition also
vanished, and I saw Our Lady once more, this time resembling Our Lady of
Carmel.
EPILOGUE
Here then, Your Excellency, you have the story of the Apparitions of Our
Lady in the Cova da Iria, in 1917. Whenever and for whatever motive I had
to speak of them, I sought to do so in as few words as possible, with the
desire of keeping to myself alone those more intimate aspects which were
so difficult for me to reveal. But as they belong to God and not to me, and
as He now, through Your Excellency, requires them of me, here they are. I
return what does not belong to me. To the best of my knowledge, I keep nothing
back. I think I have only omitted some minor details referring to the petitions
which I made. As these were merely material things, I did not attach such
great importance to them, and it is perhaps because of this that they did
not make such a vivid impression on my mind; and then there were so many
of them, so very many! It was possibly because I was so anxious to remember
the innumerable graces that I had to ask of Our Lady, that I was mistaken
when I understood that the war would end on that very 13th.
Not a few people have expressed considerable surprise at the memory that
God has deigned to give me. In this matter indeed I have, through His infinite
goodness, been quite favored in every respect. Where supernatural things
are concerned, this is not to be wondered at, for these are imprinted on
the mind in such a way that it is almost impossible to forget them. At least,
the meaning of what is made known is never forgotten, unless it be that God
also wills that this too be forgotten.
APPENDIX
Introduction
The text which follows is a document written by Sister Lucia, in the third
person, towards the end of 1927, at the request of her spiritual director,
Rev. Fr. P. Aparicio, S. J. Shortly after this apparition, which took place
in her cell on the 10th of December, 1925, Sister Lucia wrote out a first
account of it, which she herself later destroyed. This present document,
therefore, is a second account. It is exactly the same as the first, except
for the fact that she added the introductory paragraph, dated 17th of December,
1927, in which she explained how she received authorization from heaven to
make known part of the secret.
We have entitled this document: "Text of the great promise of the Heart of
Mary". Truly, it is the expression of the merciful and gratuitous Will of
God, offering us a sure and easy way of salvation, given that it is supported
by the most sound catholic tradition concerning the saving efficacy of Mary's
intercession.
This text tells us the conditions required in order to respond to Our Lady's
appeal for the Five First Saturdays of the month, in reparation for the injuries
committed against the Heart of Mary. Nor should this deeper intention of
reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary ever be forgotten.
TEXT OF THE GREAT PROMISE OF THE HEART OF MARY, IN THE APPARITION AT PONTEVEDRA,
SPAIN:

On December 17th, 1927, she went before the tabernacle to ask Jesus how she
should comply with what had been asked of her, that is, to say if the origin
of the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was included in the Secret
that the most holy Virgin had confided to her.
Jesus made her hear very distinctly these words: "My daughter, write what
they ask of you. Write also all that the most holy Virgin revealed to you
in the Apparition, in which she spoke of this devotion. As for the remainder
of the Secret, continue to keep silence."
What was confided on this subject in 1917, is as follows:
She asked for them to be taken to heaven, and the most holy Virgin answered:
"Yes. I will take Jacinta and Francisco soon. But you* are to stay here some
time longer. Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved.
He wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. I promise
salvation to those who embrace it, and these souls will be loved by God,
like flowers placed by me to adorn His throne."
"Am I to stay here all alone?" she asked, sadly.
"No, daughter. I shall never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your
refuge and the way that will lead you to God."
On December 10th, 1925, the most holy Virgin appeared to her, and by her
side, elevated on a luminous cloud, was a child. The most holy Virgin rested
her hand on her shoulder, and as she did so, she showed her a heart encircled
by thorns, which she was holding in her other hand. At the same time, the
Child said:
"Have compassion on the Heart of your most holy Mother, covered with thorns,
with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one
to make an act of reparation to remove them."
Then the most holy Virgin said:
"Look, my daughter, at my Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful
men pierce me at very moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at
least try to console me and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death,
with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday
of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite
five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while
meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of
making reparation to me."
On February 15th, 1926, the Infant Jesus appeared to her again. He asked
her if she had already spread the devotion to His most holy Mother. She told
Him of the confessor's difficulties, and said that Mother Superior was prepared
to propagate it, but that the confessor had said that she, alone, could do
nothing.
Jesus replied:
"It is true that your Superior alone can do nothing, but with my grace, she
can do all."
She placed before Jesus the difficulty that some people had about confessing
on Saturday, and asked that it might be valid to go to confession within
eight days.
Jesus answered:
"Yes, and it could be longer still, provided that, when they receive Me,
they are in the state of grace and have the intention of making reparation
to the Immaculate Heart of Mary."
She then asked:
"My Jesus, what about those who forget to make this intention?"
Jesus replied:
"They can do so at their next confession, taking advantage of the first
opportunity to go to confession."
Some days later, Sister Lucia wrote down a full account of this apparition,
which was sent to Msgr. Manuel Pereira Lopes, afterwards Vicar General of
the Diocese of Porto, who had been Lucia's confessor during her stay at Vilar
do Oporto. This unpublished document was inserted by Rev. Dr. Sebastido Martins
dos Reis in his book entitled: "A Life in the Service of Fatima" cf. pp.
336-357.
On the 15th (of February 1926), 1 was very busy at my work, and was not thinking
of this at all. I went to throw out a pan full of rubbish beyond the vegetable
garden, in the same place where, some months earlier, I had met a child.
I had asked him if he knew the Hail Mary, and he said he did, whereupon I
requested him to say it so that I could hear him. But, as he made no attempt
to say it by himself, I said it with him three times over, at the end of
which I asked him to say it alone. But as he remained silent and was unable
to say the Hail Mary alone, I asked him if he knew where the Church of Santa
Maria was, to which he replied that he did. I told him to go there every
day and to say this: 0 my heavenly Mother, give me your Child Jesus! I taught
him this, and then left him.
On the 15th of February, 1926, going there as usual, I found a child who
seemed to me to be the same one whom I had previously met, so I questioned
him:
"Did you ask our heavenly Mother for the Child Jesus?"
The child turned to me and said:
"And have you spread through the world what our heavenly Mother requested
of you?"
With that, he was transformed into a resplendent Child.
Knowing then that it was Jesus, I said:
"My Jesus, You know very well what my confessor said to me in the letter
I read to You. He told me that it was necessary for this vision to be repeated,
for further happenings to prove its credibility, and he added that Mother
Superior, on her own, could do nothing to propagate this devotion."
"It is true your Superior alone can do nothing, but with my grace she can
do all. It is enough that your confessor gives you permission and that your
Superior speak of it, for it to be believed, even without people knowing
to whom it has been revealed."
"But my confessor said in the letter that this devotion is not lacking in
the world, because there are many souls who receive You on the First Saturdays,
in honour of Our Lady and of the Fifteen Mysteries of the Rosary."
"It is true, my daughter, that many souls begin the First Saturdays, but
few finish them, and those who do complete them do so in order to receive
the graces that are promised thereby. It would please me more if they did
Five with fervour and with the intention of making reparation to the Heart
of your heavenly Mother, than if they did Fifteen, in a tepid and indifferent
manner..."

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -- The Vatican on Monday released the text of the
"third secret of Fatima" and a document supporting its interpretation of
the 1917 vision as foretelling the papal shooting and communism's persecution
of Christianity.
The broad outlines of the secret, said to have been revealed by the Madonna
to three Portuguese shepherd children, were first disclosed on May 13 during
the pope's visit to Fatima.
The actual text of the secret was written in 1944 by Lucia dos Santos, now
a frail, 93-year-old nun who is the only survivor of the three children.
The secret was long feared to contain an apocalyptic vision of the end of
the world, but in a 43-page document called "The Vision of Fatima" the Vatican
reiterated its view that the secret referred to events which appeared to
have already happened.
In her recollection of the third part of the 1917 vision, Sister Lucia says
she and the other two children, Francisco and Jacinta, saw "an angel with
a flaming sword."
They then saw "a bishop dressed in white (and) we had the impression that
it was the Holy Father."
As the vision continued, the children saw the pope "passing through a big
city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain
and sorrow (and) he prayed for the souls of corpses he met on his way..."
When the pope reached the top of a mountain and was praying at the foot of
a cross "he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows
at him" as he and bishops, priests and nuns and other people "died one after
the other."
Angels then "gathered up the blood of the martyrs and with it sprinkled the
souls that were making their way to God."
The document included a photocopy of Sister Lucia's handwritten Portuguese
words of the secret, which has been kept locked at the Vatican, as well as
a section justifying its interpretation of the secret.
Before the Vatican decided to reveal the secret last month, papal envoys
visited Sister Lucia in her cloistered convent to seek her opinion of the
Pope's interpretation and her permission to reveal it.
"She repeated her conviction that the vision of Fatima concerns above all
the struggle of atheistic communism against the Church and against Christians,
and describes the terrible sufferings of the victims of the faith in the
Twentieth Century," the document said.
The document continued: "When asked: 'Is the principal figure in the vision
the Pope?', Sister Lucia replied at once that it was."
Turkish gunman Mehmet Ali Agca shot and nearly killed the pope in St Peter's
Square in 1981, a time when events in the pope's Polish homeland were starting
the domino effect that would lead to the collapse of communism in Eastern
Europe.
The document said: "Sister Lucia was in full agreement with the pope's claim
that 'it was a mother's hand that guided the bullet's path and in his throes
the pope halted at the threshold of death."'
The pope believes that it was the Madonna of Fatima who saved him from death
by Agca's bullets, which were fired on the anniversary of one of the visions
reportedly seen by the three shepherd children.
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, head of the Vatican's doctrinal office, said in
a commentary that after the shooting, when the pope had the Fatima secret
brought to his hospital bed, "was it not inevitable that he should see in
it his own fate?"
The first two parts of the secret were known for decades.
In the first, the children said they saw a vision of hell.
In the second part, Mary predicted the outbreak of World War II some 22 years
before it started, asked for devotion to her Immaculate Heart and asked that
Russia, which was about to undergo the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, be
consecrated to her.
Otherwise, the Madonna is said to have told the children, to whom she appeared
each month from May to October 1917, that Russia, about to become the Soviet
Union, would "spread her errors" in the world and the pope would suffer much.

third secret of Fatima that three children believed they received from the

on Monday.
TEXT: I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through
his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and
mine. After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of
Our Lady and a little above, we saw an angel with a flaming sword in his
left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would
set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that
Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth

how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a bishop dressed
in white 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father.' Other bishops,
priests, men and women religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of
which there was a big cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the
bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half
in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow,
he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on this way; having reached
the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big cross he was

The feeling at the Vatican site seems to be that this will not come to pass,

Conchita has stated that she was told by the Blessed Virgin in 1962 that
after the death of Pope John XXIII, "There would be two more popes after
Pope Paul VI and that one of the popes would have a very short reign. After
that would come the end times but not the end of the world." If Conchita
has interpreted this vision of Mary correctly, then Pope John Paul II is
the last of the popes before the end times begin. Conchita said that she

St. Malachy O'Morgair (1095?-1148)
Maelmhaedhoc O'Morgair (Latin form: Malachy) was born in Armagh, Ireland
in 1094. In 1148, he died in the arms of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, his
biographer.
Here are descriptions of the final popes according to Malachy: Pastor et
Nauta/Shepherd and Navigator: John XXIII (1958 -1963), patriarch of Venice
(a city full of sailors) led his flock to a modernization of the Church through
the Ecumenical Council. John chose two symbols for this Council -- a cross
and a ship.
Flors Florum/Flower of Flowers: Paul VI (1963-1978) had a coat-of-arms depicting
three fleurs-de-lis.
De Medietate Lunae/From the Half Moon: John Paul I (1978-1978) had the given
name of Albino Luciani or "white light." Half-way into his short reign, a
lunar eclipse occurred.
De Labore Solis/From the Toil of the Sun [Labore could also be Effort, Distress,
Suffering, Trouble, leading to quite a few variations. The preceding is the

De Gloria Olivae/From the Glory of the Olives: The Order of Saint Benedict
has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks. Saint Benedict himself
prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the
Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against

Petrus Romanus/Peter of Rome: The Final Pope? "In the final persecution of
the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his

Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (17th Century)
The fifth period of the Church, which began circa 1520, will end with the
arrival of the holy Pope and of the powerful Monarch who is called "Help

will purify His people through cruel wars, famines, plagues, epidemics, and
other horrible calamities. He will also afflict and weaken the Latin Church
with many heresies. It is a period of defections, calamities and exterminations.

During this period, many men will abuse of the freedom of conscience conceded

We now arrive in the Marian Apparitions timetable at 1961, a time when rumors
were beginning to circulate that change was in the wind as Pope John XXIII
convened the Second Vatican Council. The politics surrounding Garabandal
during those and subsequent years prevented the dire messages from being
taken seriously, but in recent times the bishop has been more open to examining
the content and giving credibility to what Our Lady imparted to the four
young visionaries in this mountainous community in northeastern Spain. The
interesting aspect of these messages are that they are meant for our times
in the late nineties and that they are intricately related through the saintly
Padre Pio who is up for Beatification. Yes, the timing is right for the messages
of Garabandal, with the increased concern about the Warning and the Miracle
promised at Garabandal and affirmed by a multitude of other visionaries.
In the next several installments we are going to attempt to show how the
Warning and the Miracle are intertwined in God’s master plan for in each
ensuing apparition or message, Our Lady, in this Age of Marian Apparitions,
unveils another piece of the overall "puzzle" in her on-going crusade to
bring all her children back to her Divine Son.
Though the timing of the first Garabandal apparition was twenty years before
the daily visits began in Medjugorje, they are intricately linked as are
the messages of Betania, Akita and countless other sites and messages to
messengers the world over. Just how closely the "Ten Secrets" of Medjugorje
relate to the messages of Garabandal and the Warning, no one except the
visionaries really know for sure, but we do know that the parallel of Garabandal
to Medjugorje is no coincidence.
Twenty years before Our Lady appeared to six children in the small village
of Medjugorje, the Blessed Mother appeared to four children in the even smaller
village of San Sebastian de Garabandal in the northernmost mountain region
of Spain. Like Medjugorje, Garabandal is less than a hundred miles from the
coast; like Medjugorje, Garabandal is nestled between the mountains: like
Medjugorje, the villagers were poor farmers whose faith was strong, yet simple.
And yet it was this unpretentious hamlet Our Blessed Mother chose to impart
her most powerful message since LaSalette and Fatima.
The sixties had just dawned. It was a time when the "age of innocence" was
about to be transformed into the "age of guile and deceit". The era
of "Camelot" was soon to become Mordred’s dungeon for the sinister sin of
abortion was just coming into its own, sexual mores would be stretched to
their limits, and the world would turn further away from God, committing
sins that would cause many tears of sorrow and cry out for Justice. In addition,
the Second Vatican Council had been called.
Little did anyone realize that from the authentic good fruits of the Spirit
how the evil one would afterwards confuse the faithful through those within
the Church who had sold their souls to the prince of darkness.
Our Blessed Mother knew this was all just over the horizon when she began
appearing to four young girls- Mari Loli Mazon, Conchita Gonzalez and Jacinta
Gonzalez- all twelve years old at the time of the first apparitions-and
Maria-Cruz Gonzalez, age eleven. Though the three shared the same surname,
they were not related. Like the young visionaries in Medjugorje two decades
later, these girls had been up to innocent, but mischievous fun-stealing
apples on the hillside above the some seventy rough-tiled homes in the village.
As their consciences got the best of them, their imagination took over and
they thought they saw an angel on the evening of June 18, 1961. Indeed, they
did, and he reappeared silently for the next week to them in the same spot.
This Heavenly messenger had come to prepare the children for a cornucopia
of visits from the Mother of God.
Just as he did at Fatima when he announced he was the "Angel of Peace", this
time he identified himself as St. Michael the Archangel! The Guardian of
the Faith had come to tell these elementary school girls that the Mother
of God would soon appear to them. Early on the evening of July 1, 1961 St.
Michael appeared again to the four and heralded that Mary would soon appear
to them as Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Garabandal, Spain - June 18, 1961.
A mountain village in northwest Spain where on June 18, 1961, four young
girls witnessed an apparition. Conchita Gonzalez reported a vision of the
archangel Michael who announced that the Blessed Virgin would appear to them
beginning July 2.
There were more than two thousand alleged apparitions of the Blessed Virgin
which lasted until 1965. During those apparitions, the actions of the children
were filmed by Spanish, Italian, and British networks. In one of the films
an invisible host materialized and became visible in the mouth of one of
the children. In the conversations between the children and the Blessed Virgin,
she mentioned an era of great chastisement, but there would first be a warning,
and then a sign that would be left in the pines of Garabandal.
The prophecy of the 'night of screams' given to, Conchita, Mary Loli Mazon,
Mary Cruz, and Hachinta by the Virgin Mary.
Beginning in 1961 the four girls began having visions of the Virgin Mary.
After four years and thousands of these experiences, they were given a look
at the future, during which they were screaming and crying. What they were
shown was a time when no motors will operate anywhere in the world. There
will be terrible heat. People will be looking for water and not be able to
find it. They will attempt to kill each other over the lack of these resources.
The girls were told that 8 days prior to this event, she (Mother Mary) would
appear to them, so that they may announce a warning to the people.
If it should occur that all the engines in the world stopped running, it
would most likely be due to some kind of electromagnetic interference. If
this is the case, then nothing electrical will work. No computers, no
communications, and no electricity from the power grids. We will be thrown
back into the 'dark' ages in one fell swoop. There will be no water, because
the pumps will not work to bring it from the wells or the reservoirs.
True to St. Michael's word to the young visionaries Mari Loli Mazon, Conchita
Gonzalez, Jacinta Gonzales, and Maria-Cruz Gonzalez the Blessed Mother did
appear to the four girls around 6 pm on Sunday, July 2 as many had gathered
at the "cuadro" - the primitive hewn stone enclosure erected on the spot
where St. Michael had appeared to the girls and which had been constructed
to prevent the crowds from crushing in on the children while in ecstasy.
This area was half way up the hill between the famous clump of pine trees
and the village below. In the Blessed Mother’s first visit to the girls,
she was flanked by St. Michael and another angel of the same stature. The
children were unafraid and launched into a healthy conversation with Our
Lady, even causing the Blessed Virgin to chuckle. Yet they were always reverent,
but as children are wont to be, very naïve to protocol.
Though there were many words throughout her visit, Our Lady showed them symbols
and pictures to better emphasize the impact of her message. An example of
this was the First Formal Message on July 4, 1961 when Mary told them "The
Cup is already filling."" Simultaneously they saw in vision a large chalice
with drops of the Precious Blood dripping into the cup. At Our Blessed
Mother’s request, the message was not released to the public until October
18 of that year. The message said:
"We must make many sacrifices, perform much penance and visit the Blessed
Sacrament frequently. But first, we must lead good lives. If we do not, a
chastisement will befall us. The cup is already filling up and if we do not
change, a very great chastisement will come upon us." The Second Formal Message
was a follow-up to this one which we will deal with later in this article
and which reiterates mankind’s spiritual procrastination - very similar to
her message today throughout the world as well as her ongoing communiqués
in Medjugorje.
Just as Father Jozo Zovko wavered in the early going as to whether Our Lady
was really appearing before he took the six Yugoslavian visionaries under
his wing once he realized the apparitions were of God, so also the local
priest Father Valentin Marichalar harbored some doubts at first, then began
to believe as he heard the miraculous accounts from the children and their
parents as well as witnessing, with others, the girls’ ecstatic trances.
Though this seemingly convinced him and many of his companions and villagers
that the children were not fabricating their tale, doubts still cropped up
from time to time for he, though a priest, was, like all of us, only human.
Early tests on the visionaries were performed from shining bright lights
in their eyes to pricking them with pins to scientific testing and pulse
taking. Through it all they didn’t blink. Though there were those who ridicules
the girls, there were those who truly believed, especially after they witnessed
these ecstatic trances.
These phenomena were beyond any natural rationalization and Garabandal did
indeed have a
baffling prodigy to deal with. In a perplexed state, they grappled with the
question if the causes were supernatural or preternatural. The former seemed
the consensus since during these visions and dialogue, the children underwent
a physical change whisked away from this world spiritually and mentally as
their bodies were immune to any natural stimuli inflicted upon them.
Just as the Rosary as a focal point at LaSalette, Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugorje,
Betania, etc., so also was the Rosary a link for the visionaries at Garabandal.
They were praying the beads when St. Michael first appeared to them. It became
the ritual prior to every apparition after that. Soon all who gathered at
the cuardo recited the Holy Rosary with the visionaries. When Mary appeared,
hovering slightly above them, all four girls tilted their heads back
simultaneously and fell into an ecstasy that transcends all explanation.
They described Our Lady when they recounted to reporters that, "She comes
wearing a white robe, a blue mantle and a crown of golden stars; her hands
are outstretched with a brown scapular, except when she has the infant Jesus
in her arms. Her dark chestnut hair is long and parted in the middle. Her
face is rather long, with a very dainty nose. Her mouth is very pretty, with
slightly full lips. She looks about seventeen and is tallish, and there’s
no other voice like hers."
The Blessed Virgin asked the children that she be venerated as "Our Lady
of Mount Carmel of
Garabandal." Whenever she appeared the children became oblivious to time
spent in heavenly rapture or the surrounding environment. Yet when the mountain
breezes blew during the visions, Our Lady’s hair would fall almost in a cascade
to her waist and her veil would waft with the wind.
Also, the children knew when Our Lady would come through inner locutions
for she was calling them. This came to be known as a summons or "llamada."
Whenever Mary was coming she would call them three times in this manner first.
This specific manifestation of beckoning enabled the children to be very
patient, whereas their colleagues, villagers and pilgrims showed an impatience
at how casually the visionaries would tarry before going to the place of
apparitions.
For the first two weeks in July of 1961 the visions were sporadic, but as
time went on Our Lady came more frequently, sometimes several times in one
day. Most of the messages she imparted were private, much like the Medjugorje
visionaries. Some of these private missives have been divulged by Conchita
in her Diaries. In various interviews the other visionaries have revealed
more facets of what Our Lady said. The unique feature about the Garabandal
apparitions is that there were nearly 2,000 and that Our Lady practically
"lived" in the village for two years, constantly communicating with the girls
through locution and visions which lasted from June 18, 1961 to November

Medjugorje Deception or Miracle?

The Vatican is undecided. Catholic bishops are divided. Critics warn that
popular devotion is being manipulated...
And yet-15 years after the first claimed apparitions, and despite the bitter
Bosnian war which devastated the surrounding area, the pilgrims continue
to come-no, to Medjugorje. By the millions. They are seeking the Virgin Mother
of God, Mary Most Holy, and they believe Mary is appearing in Medjugorje.
In spite of the skepticism of agnostics, the doubts of Christians, and a
fair amount of official Church disapproval, the pilgrims continue to seek
out the place where six young Medjugorje visionaries (now, after 15 years,
married with children of their own), have "seen" and "heard" the Virgin every
day for a decade and a half.
Let us begin at the end, with the fruits. The Medjugorje phenomenon, by all
accounts, has already produced spiritual fruits in great abundance. Letters,
oral testimonies, even medical certificates, attest to miraculous healings,
unexpected conversions and renewed faith. In Medjugorje's wake, Catholic
radio and television programs have sprung up, and new prayer groups and religious
movements are being formed.
This is, from one perspective, highly "counter-cultural." On the threshold
of the Third Millennium, just as technology and science are facilitating
greater understanding and control of our physical world, miracles, supernatural
events and apparitions are multiplying at a dizzying rate. And it is making
some Catholic intellectuals a bit uncomfortable. After the Second Vatican
Council, some of them predicted "Lourdes will disappear." But Lourdes attracts
more visitors every year. And the pattern is worldwide.
Although the Marxist Yugoslav state and then the local bishop discouraged
visits to Medjugorje, the phenomenon has met with phenomenal worldwide interest
and support. At the same time, miraculous apparitions have been reported
and greeted by religious fervor in many other places: Akita in Japan, Kibeco
in Rwanda, Cua in Nicaragua, San Nicolas in Argentina, and Finca Betania
in Venezuela.
Is all this a "sign of the times"? A signal that the Lord is sending to show
mankind how false is the idea that the world can get by without God? Or something
else? In this report, focuses on Medjugorje in a preliminary attempt to answer
some of these questions.
THE FIRST APPARITIONS
Between June 24 and June 26, 1981, first two, then six children (now adults)
from the Bosnian village of Medjugorje, not far from the city of Mostar,
reported seeing, first an effulgence of bright light, then a vision of the
Virgin Mary. These six young people were: Ivanka Ivankovic (15 years), Mirjana
Dragicevic (16), Vicka Ivankovic (16), Ivan Dragicevic (16), Marija Pavlovic
(16) and Jakov Colo (10).
The apparitions were repeated and soon prompted a strong response from the
then-Marxist state: the six were subjected to intense questioning by doctors
and psychologists. The results of these analyses were negative. The doctors
found no evidence of any kind of hoax. The boys and girls were not ill. They
were not lying. They were of average intelligence from normal farming families,
"no better or worse than others their age." They showed no signs of any
psychological disorders.
In the initial phase, the Bishop of Mostar, Monsignor Pavao Zanic, was
sympathetic to the young visionaries. On July 25, 1981, he made a statement
to the press to the effect that: "No one has forced them or influenced them
in any manner. These are six normal children; they are not lying; they express
themselves from the depth of their hearts. Are we dealing here with a personal
vision or a supernatural occurrence? It is hard to say. However, it is certain
that they are not lying."
However, for reasons still not entirely clear, Bishop Zanic almost immediately
changed his attitude, becoming the main critic and opponent of the Medjugorje
apparitions. Nonetheless, the six continued to experience apparitions. Even
today, four of the "Medjugorje seers" continue to experience daily apparitions
of the Madonna.
HOW THE APPARITIONS OCCUR
The apparitions come about in a very simple, spontaneous manner. The children
wait, reciting the rosary. They enter the sacristy just before the last part
of the Rosary, praying out loud along with the crowd. Then, suddenly, they
kneel down simultaneously. They look upwards, in the same direction, with
hopeful, tranquil expressions. Their lips move as if they are speaking, but
they make no sounds.
Where their glances converge indicates the location of the apparition at
a point very close to them. In general, the apparitions last from one to
three minutes; then their voices become audible again. After coming out of
their ecstatic trance, the visionaries report the Virgin's words to the assembled
pilgrims.
Experiments on the children in ecstasy, for instance pressure on Vicka's
arm, or lifting up the smaller Jakov, have not evoked the slightest reaction,
not even a change of expression. Jakov's knees bent again in prayer when
he was released.
Studies conducted by a medical team from the University of Montpellier, France,
led by Henri Joyeux, member of the French Surgeons' Academy and recipient
of international medical awards, and another group, led by the Italian Marco
Margnelli, specialist in investigating visions, have ascertained that, while
in contemplation the Medjugorje teenagers were not dreaming, sleeping with
open eyes, or in epileptic or cataleptic states. It is interesting to note
that Professor Margnelli, a convinced Marxist, converted to Catholicism after
his Medjugorje experience.
The Medjugorje visionaries remain functional while losing contact with the
ordinary world. All their physical functions, including photometric and other
reflexes, remain unaltered. The individuals speak, converse or pray with
the Madonna, never losing their equilibrium, and return from their ecstasy
without trauma.
The most incredible aspect of the Medjugorje phenomenon is that, at a distance
of 15 years, the six visionaries remain simple, healthy and joyous individuals
without neurotic symptoms. This is especially surprising since they have
been subjected to interrogations, interviews, psychological and medical analyses,
and pressure from both the State and the Church. They are apparently free
from the temptations and pressures which often accompany world fame and
popularity.

Hundreds gather to see milk miracle

Hundreds of people have been queueing at a Hindu templein west London hoping
to witness a miracle- Statues of gods drinking milk.
Early today 500 people were waiting to witness the "miracle", many of them
carrying cartons and bottles of milk. A priest at the Vishwa Temple in Southall
first reported seeing statues of Hindu gods drinking milk.
As word spread yesterday hundreds of people besieged the temple. Roshan Lal
Bhanbari chairman of the temple, said he first heard about milk-drinking
idols in India and he asked his priest if anything had happened at the Vishwa
temple.
"When we put a spoon of milk up to the liups of the deity the milk dissappeared
in seconds" he said. Mr Bhanbari said it was the first time anything like
this had happened since the Vishwa temple was established in 1978.
He said the statue of Nandi-th bull on which the Hindu deity Lord Shiva rides-
was performing the "miracle", but other people reported that another statue
in the temple, that of Ganesh, the Hindu elephant god of wisdom was also
sipping milk.

THE WORLD-WIDE MILK MIRACLES:
". . . a sign that a great Soul has descended"

On Thursday 21 September the news swept around the world of the extraordinary
miracles of milk-drinking Hindu statues. Never before in history has a
simultaneous miracle occurred on such a global scale. Television, radio and
newspapers eagerly covered this unique phenomenon, and even sceptical journalists
held their milk-filled spoons to the gods -- and watched, humbled, as the
milk disappeared. The media coverage was extensive, and although scientists
and 'experts' created theories of "capillary absorption" and "mass hysteria",
the overwhelming evidence and conclusion was that an unexplainable miracle
had occurred.
It all began at dawn in a temple on the outskirts of Delhi, India, when milk
offered to a statue of Ganesh just disappeared into thin air. Word spread
so quickly throughout India that soon thousands were offering milk to the
gods and watching in amazement as it disappeared. Life in India was brought
to a virtual standstill as people rushed to temples to see for themselves
the drinking gods. Others claimed that small statues in millions of homes
around the country were also drinking the offerings of milk.
At one of Delhi's largest temples, the Birla Mandir, Pandit Sunderlal was
just coming on duty at 5.30am when he got a call telling him of the miracle
in the suburbs. "I went and took a spoon of milk and put it to Ganesh's mouth.
He drank it and it became empty. Then I gave Shiva a drink too."
Traffic in Delhi was halted as police struggled to control crowds who gathered
outside hundreds of temples with jugs and saucepans of milk for the marble
statues of Ganesh, the Hindu God of wisdom and learning, and Shiva, his father,
God the Destroyer in the Hindu trinity. Across Delhi, society ladies with
silver jugs and tumblers full of milk were standing alongside uneducated
labouring women in mile-long queues, awaiting their turn.
At one Delhi temple a priest said more than 5,000 people had visited his
temple: "We are having a hard time managing the crowds." A Delhi housewife
who had waited two hours to feed the white marble statue of Ganesh said:
"The evil world is coming to an end and maybe the Gods are here to help us."
Even the cynical professed amazement. "It's unbelievable. My friends told
me about it and I just thought it was rubbish," said a Delhi business woman,
Mabati Kasori. "But then I did it myself. I swear that the spoon was drained."
Parmeesh Soti, a company executive, was convinced it was a miracle. "It cannot
be a hoax. Where would all that milk go to? It just disappeared in front
of my eyes."
Suzanne Goldenberg, a Delhi-based journalist, reported that: "Inside the
darkened shrine, people held stainless steel cups and clay pots to the central
figure of the five-headed Shiva, the destroyer of evil, and his snake companion,
and watched the milk levels ebb. Although some devotees force-fed the idol
enthusiastically, the floor was fairly dry."
India was in pandemonium. The Government shut down for several hours, and
trading ground to a halt on stock markets in Bombay and New Delhi as millions
in homes and temples around the country offered milk to the gods.
Very soon the news spread to Hindu communities in Singapore, Hong Kong, Nepal,
Thailand, Dubai, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Canada. Reports were flooding
in from all over the world. In Hong Kong more than 800 people converged on
the Hindu temple in Happy Valley to witness the drinking statues of Krishna
and Brahma alongside the small silver statue of Ganesh which priests claimed
had drunk 20 litres of milk.
In the United Kingdom, Hindus reported miracles taking place in temples and
homes around the country. At the Vishwa Temple in Southall, London, 10,000
people in 24 hours witnessed the 15-inch statue of the bull Nandi and a bronze
statue of the cobra Shash Naag drinking milk from cups and spoons. Sushmith
Jaswal, aged 20, said she was sceptical at first but her doubts vanished
with the milk. "It was like a blessing," she said. Nita Mason also witnessed
the statue and said, "It is a miracle -- God is trying to show people that
he is here." Girish Desai, a bank worker from Edgware said: "I had heard
reports but didn't believe it. But I experienced it myself. I held a spoonful
of milk to the lips of one of the idols . . . and the statue started sipping
it. The milk disappeared as I watched it."
At the Geeta Bhavan Temple in Manchester a 3-inch silver Ganesh lapped up
the milk. Rakesh Behl, 35, fed the silver elephant several times and said:
"Did you see how quickly Ganesh drank? How can anyone not believe this miracle?
This has really inspired my faith." At the Southall home of Asha Ruparelia,
42, a clay statue of Ganesh was drinking the milk in her living room: "It
has drunk 20 pints of milk since last night. Nearly 600 people have come
round to see it."
Another amazing manifestation occurred at a major Hindu temple in Wimbledon,
South London. There, milk offerings to the statue of Ganesh disappeared,
and, simultaneously, in a shrine room containing a large photograph of Sai
Baba, vibhuti (holy ash) poured from Sai Baba's forehead, and amrit (nectar)
flowed from His feet.
Many journalists actively participated in these miraculous events. Rebecca
Mae, a DAILY EXPRESS journalist, wrote: "I had a good view from the side
and all I can say is that the statue appeared to suck in half a spoonful
while it was held level by the worshipper. The rest was sipped reverently
by the devotee. A photographer from a national tabloid newspaper was right
in front of the statue. And he was convinced it was drinking the milk. He
said he could see no mechanism to explain the phenomenon, after scrutinising
it at length. As a lapsed Catholic I don't believe in stories of the Virgin
Mary shedding tears. Indeed, I would say I was as sceptical as anyone --
but it's difficult to dismiss something you have seen for yourself."
Journalist Suzanne O'Shea also witnessed the miracle. "Following the example
of others I knelt on the floor beside the statue of the bull and placed a
dessert spoon filled with milk beside its mouth, steadying it with both hands.
Within seconds the milk had virtually vanished, leaving just a drop in the
spoon that was emptied into my hands so that I could bless myself. I tried
a second time, and again the milk seemed to vanish from the spoon within
seconds."
Rikee Verma, a journalist from THE TIMES newspaper, wrote: "Being a religious
person, I first went to the upstairs bedroom . . . and placed a spoonful
of milk against a photograph of Ganesh and was astonished to find within
seconds that the spoon was half empty. I checked to make sure that the glass
frame of the photograph was not wet. It was dry. I could not believe what
I was seeing. This was clearly a message from the gods saying: 'We are here,
here's the proof.' I then went to the Sri Ram Mandir [Temple] in Southall.
. . . I placed a spoonful of milk underneath the trunk and within seconds
the spoon was empty. . . . Others who had witnessed the miracle were filled
with emotion. 'Our god has finally come to us,' one said."
While the media and scientists still struggle to find an explanation for
these events, many Hindus believe they are a sign that a great teacher has
been born. Journalist Rebecca Mae writes: "Most of the worshippers said they
only went to the temple occasionally and were certainly not religious fanatics.
But they were adamant that a new god had been born to save the world from
evil." Krishna Anratar Dubey, a respected Indian astrologer, explained that
according to Hindu mythology such miracles happen when a great Soul arrives
in the world.
At the Southall temple in London where thousands had witnessed the miracles,
the chairman Mr Bharbari offered his explanation. "All I know is that our
Holy Book says that wherever evil prevails on earth then some great Soul
will descend to remove the bondage of evil so that right shall reign. We
believe this miracle, and those happening at other Hindu temples, may be
a sign that a great Soul has descended, like Lord Krishna or Jesus Christ."

(Benjamin Creme's Master has explained that Maitreya and a group of Masters
were responsible for these manifestations, while Sai Baba, Himself, created
the vibhuti and amrit which flowed from his photograph in the Wimbledon temple.
He also predicts that there will be even more amazing miracles in the very
near future. These 'signs' are events co-ordinated with the imminent appearance
of Maitreya on television. In His article in SHARE INTERNATIONAL July 1992,
Benjamin Creme's Master forecast: "In time, even biased and cynical media
will find it difficult to gainsay the experience of thousands that the 'age
of miracles' has no end.")

Image
to
the
Beast

In our understanding of the image to the beast as noted in Revelation 13:14,15,
it is necessary for us to see this time period of "The Time of The End" and
the various participants who figure importantly during this time.
This period known as the Time of The End is a time of 1335 days (Dan. 12:11,12),
and extends from the time the censer is hurled onto the earth from heaven
(Rev. 8:5) and lasts until the Second Coming. Its ending is when Christ
comes to free the trampled Israelites in Jerusalem and to collect the living
saints.
Before Christ comes in all His glory at His Second Coming, He is revealed
to every nation, kindred, tongue and people by a special group whom He selects
for that very purpose. They are the 144,000 and in the Appendix I will
present the reasons I believe that these are represented mostly by Gentile
Christians. Those are the wild olive branches who have been grafted
into the cultivated olive tree; the natural branches having been cut off
due to unbelief -- the literal Israelites from the twelve tribes
(Rom.11:17-20).
Now let us note carefully the series of events associated with the beginning
of the Great Tribulation. It is during the same period of the reign
of the Antichrist. He is the cause of the Great Tribulation.
This time is the first 1260 (3-l/2 years) of our 1335 days of the time of
the end.
Rev. 7:1-4 -- After this I saw four angels standing
at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth
to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.
Then I saw another angel
coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called
out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the
land and the sea: "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we
put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.
Then I heard the number
of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of
Israel."
The four winds that were about to blow on the earth represented the global
catastrophes to be unleashed as announced by the Trumpets. This carnage
is to be held up until the 144,000 are selected and sealed for their special
work. Their special work must be confined to the time of the Great
Tribulation. Their testimony is to last for 1260 days -- the
same time period allotted for the Great Tribulation. They are sealed
with a special filling of the Holy Spirit immediately before the winds of
the Great Tribulation are released, and at the time they finish their testimony
(3-l/2 years later) they are martyred by the beast from the abyss --
the counterfeit god. Three and a half days following their martyrdom
they are resurrected and called up to heaven by a loud voice (Rev. 11:11,12).
Immediately following the rapturing of these witnesses to heaven the Seventh
Trumpet sounds. The trumpets are sounded by God's seven angels to announce
the catastrophes to be produced by the Antichrist. These represent
the wrath of Satan. The Seventh Trumpet does not represent another
of Satan's plagues, but is to announce the termination of the counterfeit's
rule on this earth and the beginning of Christ's rule. Notice the
declarations made by the Seventh Trumpet.
Rev. 11:15-18 -- The seventh angel sounded his trumpet,
and there were loud voices in heaven which said:
"The kingdom of the world
has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ and He will reign for
ever and ever.
This pinpoints the ending of the reign by the Antichrist and the beginning
of Christ's rule on this earth. Notice some of the statements of the
24 elders which followed:
Vss. 17,18 -- We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. The
nations were angry and your wrath has come."
These plagues which had just been completed could not be due to the wrath
of God, because the statement "Your wrath has come" would represent
the wrath announced by the Seventh Trumpet and the wrath that occurred prior
to that time would have to be someone else's wrath. God's wrath is
expressed in the Seven Last Plagues.
Rev. 15:1 -- I saw in heaven another great and marvelous
sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues -- last because
with them God's wrath is completed.
Note another statement by the 24 elders:
Rev. 11:18 -- The time is come ... for rewarding
"your servants the prophets."
This is definitely referring to the 144,000 who are referred to as "your
servants" and "your servants the prophets" throughout Revelation. How
better could they be rewarded than rapturing them to heaven where they witness
the earth going through the Seven Last Plagues? They are God's special
representatives to warn the people of the earth about this evil impostor
who claims to be above every god. Their main task is to tell the world
The Gospel of Christ as their only door to salvation, which is in
opposition to the claims of the Antichrist.
I believe the above gives a definite end point to the Antichrist's
3-l/2 year reign, but we need to see if we can identify its initiation in
the same manner.
The Antichrist cannot decide to take over the earth whenever he wants, but
must await God's timetable. This Antichrist represents Satan personified
as a man. Just as God came to this earth and was personified as a man
(Jesus) and had a ministry of 3-l/2 years, so Satan has been given equal
time to be personified as a man and a ministry limited to 3-l/2 years to
present his case to the world.
Jesus revealed God to be a God of love and compassion. Satan will be
revealed through this god-man (wickedness revealed in human form -- 2
Thess. 2:3 NEB) as a wicked destroyer.
Dan. 8:12 -- Because of rebellion, the host of
the saints, and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered
in everything it did and truth was thrown to the ground.
"Because of rebellion" -- This is speaking of the rebellion
of the Israelites refusing to accept Christ as their savior for the past
2000 years.
"The host of the saints," -- These are the Israelites living
in the Land of Israel at the end-time. They were turned over to and
conquered by the Antichrist. Two-thirds of them were struck down and
destroyed. Of the remaining one-third, 50% were exiled to all the nations
of this evil Conglomerate (10), and the remaining 50% to be trampled on for
3-l/2 years in Jerusalem (Zech.13:8,9; 14;2).
"The daily sacrifice was given over to it." This represents
the heavenly service of holding back the winds of the Great Tribulation.
This was represented in the earthly sanctuary as the daily sacrifice which
consisted of the evening-morning sacrifices. These sacrifices were
to continue daily without interruption.
Num. 28:1-4 -- The Lord said to Moses, "Give this
command to the Israelites and say to them: ‘See that you present to me at
the appointed time the food for my offerings made by fire, as an aroma
pleasing to me.’
Say to them: "This is the
offering made by fire that you are to present to the Lord: two lambs a year
old without defect, as a regular burnt offering each day.
Prepare one lamb in the
morning and the other at twilight."
These sacrifices were to be performed each and every day
and were designated as the Daily. They were also listed as the
evening-morning. After the 144,000 were sealed, notice how this daily
service was given over to the Antichrist -- which initiated the
beginning of his reign.
Rev. 8:2-5 -- And I saw the seven angels who stand
before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Another angel, who
had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar.
He was given much
incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar
before the throne.
The smoke of the
incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God
from the angel's hand. (An aroma pleasing to God.)
The angel took the censer,
filled it with fire from the altar and hurled it onto the earth; and there
came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an
earthquake.
This giving of the daily sacrifice over to this evil entity was God's method
of giving a rebellious earth its last wake-up call. In spite of His
continuous outpouring of blessings and heaven's bounties, the inhabitants
of the earth have been going deeper and deeper into open rebellion against
God. Drastic conditions in man's spiritual condition require drastic
medicine by God in His all-out effort to secure man's salvation, and to make
sure that those who choose the impostor will be making a fully informed decision.
Immediately after turning this world over to the Antichrist for his short
rule, we note that the restraints holding back the winds of strife are lifted:
Rev. 8:6,7 -- Then the seven angels who had the
seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
The first angel sounded
his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and
it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the trees were burned
up, and all the green grass was burned up.
We note that immediately following the angel hurling the incense-filled censer
down from heaven to earth, indicating the daily sacrifices were given over
to this counterfeit god, the first in a series of six plagues will be poured
out on the earth. This first plague was fire hurled down upon the earth
from the heavens and the tremendous devastation it produced.
We note from his description as the lamb-like beast of Revelation 13 that
this will be one of his most impressive signs to let us know who we are dealing
with.
Rev. 13:13,14 -- And he (the lamb-like beast)
perform-ed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down
from heaven to earth in full view of men.
Because of the signs that
he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the
inhabitants of the earth.
It is not difficult to see how the majority of the earth, who are not aware
of his coming or the extent of his powers will be completely deluded into
believing that he is God; a claim that he persists in making and by his miracles,
tries to prove.
I would like to show a possible connection with these manifestations, especially
the first plague, with the apparitions of Mary that have been sending messages
to her favorite church.
The most famous and best known apparition of Mary was to three shepherd children
in Portugal in 1917. According to Sr. Lucia -- the only one
still living of the three -- the message was in three secrets.
The first two have been published and propagated by the church. The
third secret is also composed of three distinct parts. In her (Sr.
Lucia's) memoirs written in 1941 she lists the first and second parts of
the third secret.
The first is the
vision of hell and the designation of the immaculate Heart of Mary as the
supreme remedy offered by God to humanity for the salvation of
souls." Our Lady said, "In order to save them, God wishes to establish
in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart."
The second is the great prophecy concerning
a miraculous peace which God wishes to grant to the world through the
consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the practice
of communions of reparation on the first Saturdays of the
month.
"If people attend to my requests, Russia will
be converted and the world will have
peace."

The third part of the third secret remains a secret. The popes have
read it and agree that it is authentic, but have refused to publish it.
They agree that it concerns a punishment that is coming on the world, including
the Catholic church.
Apparently this refusal to publish this portion of the third secret has angered
the apparitions of Mary. Some have felt that subsequent apparitions
have left messages which represent this missing part of this third secret.
Notice the comment in a Catholic source discussing the missing part of this
third secret of Fatima:
Has the Blessed Mother revealed the third secret of Fatima in other messages?
Many people who have studied those messages clearly believe that the
Blessed Mother revealed it on 10/13/73 to Sr. Agnes Sasagawa at Akita,
Japan. The apparitions at Akita have been approved by the local
bishop. The message was as follows:
"As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the
Father will inflict
a terrible punishment on all of humanity. It will be a punishment
greater than the Deluge, such as no one will never have seen before.
Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity,
the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priest nor faithful. The
survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead.
The only weapons which will remain for you will be the rosary and the Sign
left by my Son. Each day recite the prayers of the rosary. With
the rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops, and the priests... Pray
very much the prayers of the rosary. I alone am able still to save
you from calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence
in me will be saved."

Others point out that our Lady seems to have revealed again the third secret
in a locution to the Marian Movement of Priests on 9/15/87 at Akita, Japan,
the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows:
"A chastisement worse than the flood is about
to come upon this poor and perverted humanity. Fire will descend
from Heaven and this will be the sign that the justice of God has as
of now fixed the hour of His great manifestation... Even now,
that which I predicted at Fatima and that which I have revealed here in the
third message confided to a little daughter of mine is in the process of
being accomplished."

I have no reason to doubt that these apparitions were real and that these
are the messages they left. On the other hand, I am absolutely certain
that the apparitions and their messages are not from God. Nowhere in
Scripture is there any mention that our salvation is dependent, in any way,
on our devotion to Mary.
This does inform us that these apparitions of Mary will apparently have a
close relationship with the "god" who brings down fire from heaven for the
plague of the first trumpet. The apparition states that this will be
the Father who will bring down this fire, and the Antichrist concurs:
Dan. 11:36 -- The king will do as he pleases.
He will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and will say unheard of
things against the God of gods. (He is this "father")
I believe these Marian apparitions are a part of those miraculous signs and
wonders that the lamb-like beast will produce to delude the world.
I believe she, "Mary" will be a spokesperson for the Antichrist because she
will be his product. I believe she will be featured more and more as
time goes on and especially in the time of the Great Tribulation.
To understand how some of these end-time events are arranged we need to look
at the type that was given for our study and understanding.
Babylon with Nebuchadnezzar the king were types of an end-time
fulfillment. God used Babylon to destroy Jerusalem and kill off the
majority of her inhabitants due to their persistent rebellion.
Nebuchadnezzar took many exiles to Babylon and a remnant of them were protected
by God and in time were freed to return and rebuild their homeland.
There are many things that point to the same situation we are about to experience
here. Since this study is about the Image to the Beast I want to focus
our attention to an incident which occurred while the Israelites were exiles
in Babylon. I believe it is a portent of things to come:
Dan. 3:1-30 -- King Nebuchadnezzar made an image
of gold, 90 feet high and 9 feet wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura
in the province of Babylon.
He then summoned the satraps,
prefects, governors, advisors, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the
other provincial officials to come to the dedication of the image he had
set up.
These are the representatives of his world empire as it existed at that time.
Then the herald loudly proclaimed, "This is what you are commanded
to do, O peoples, nations, and men of every language: As soon as you
hear the sound of the horn, flute, etc..., you must fall down and worship
the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
Whoever does not fall down
and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace."
Read the entire chapter to see how the three Hebrew children remained faithful
to God and refused to worship the golden image that the king had made and
demanded everyone to worship.
Now let us look for the anti-type or the fulfillment of this incident, prophesied
to occur and soon to be fulfilled. Notice the similarities in the prophecy
regarding this counterfeit king in the end-time.
Revelation 13:14b,15 -- He (beast from the Abyss)
ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded
by the sword and yet lived. He was given power to give breath to the
image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused
to worship the image to be killed.
This lamb-like beast is a big step above Nebuchadnezzar. He not only
sets up an impressive image, but he was able to give breath to the image
so that it could speak. In a way that appears to be happening in these
apparitions in the past, but the image that is still coming appears to be
a fixture which remains and will have the power of speech.
This command to worship the image to the beast or be killed is also to be
world-wide. It states that it will cause all who refuse to worship
the image to be killed. Nebuchadnezzar had this apply to the world
empire of his day which he controlled, and this end-time king will do the
same and he will be the king of all the earth.
I believe the prophecy that Zechariah received from God (in Chapter 5) is
definitely speaking of the end-time and about this same event.
Zech. 5:5-11 -- (The woman in a basket) Then
the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me. "Look
up and see what this is that is appearing." I asked, "What is it?" He replied,
"It is a measuring basket." And he added, "This is the iniquity of the people
throughout the land."
Then the cover of lead was
raised, and there in the basket sat a woman! He said, "This is
wickedness," and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed the lead
cover down over its mouth.
Then I looked up --
and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They
had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven
and earth." Where are they taking the basket?" I asked the angel who
was speaking to me. He replied, "To the country of Babylonia to
build a house for it. When it is ready, the basket will be set
there in its place."
Remember, this is an end-time event. Where is Babylonia in this time
period? Certainly not Babylon of old. Remember Peter's greeting
to the church in his first epistle which he wrote to them from Rome?
1 Peter 5:13 -- She who is in Babylon, chosen together
with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. Greet one
another with a kiss of love.
I believe this basket contains the ‘woman’ that we have been receiving these
messages from. The messages that this counterfeit god, who will be
ruling the earth, has programmed her to speak. This would indicate
that her abode will be in Rome -- the Modern Babylon. We even
have a time schedule to let us know when this image will become set up and
operational.
Dan. 12:11 -- "From the time that the daily sacrifice
is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up,
there will be 1290 days"
Now we know that the daily sacrifice is abolished at the time the incense-filled
golden censer is hurled onto the earth. This censer was an essential
item in carrying out these daily services as required. (Presenting
a pleasing aroma to God)
The Seventh Trumpet sounds at the 1260 day time-frame, and represents the
end of the reign of the Impostor and the beginning of Christ's reign.
Thirty days later -- 30 days into the time of the Seven Last Plagues,
we come to 1290 days. This is the time this Universal Death Decree
(that we have been discussing) will be made to all the earth.
This will be the test that all the followers of Christ will be asked to take
and it is permitted by God. We have every assurance to believe that,
if we remain true to God, we will receive the same outcome as the faithful
three Hebrew children received. Not a hair of their body was singed
and I believe we, if faithful, will be as impervious to the devices of the
false god.
This is called the "abomination that causes desolation." What could
be a greater abomination, than that which places a death sentence on anyone
who chooses to serve the true God? The desolation in this case is for
those who fail this test. Hopefully all who make this choice will
remain faithful.
Addendum
Are the
144,000
Literal
Jews?
We know that the ten Northern tribes of Israel were conquered and carried
off by Assyria in 722 B.C. They were soon blended into the nations
of the earth with no trace of them identifiable as Israelites. We also
know that these 144,000 servants are selected by God and specially sealed
with the Holy Spirit 3-l/2 years before this spiritual hardening of the
Israelites is scheduled to be removed. This removal will then allow
these remnant Israelites to become reconciled to Christ and to obtain salvation
as His special people
Rom.11:25-27 -- I do not want you to be ignorant
of this Mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has
experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles
has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:
"The deliverer will come
from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my
covenant with them when I take away their sins. (Paul quotes from
Isaiah 59:20,21; 22:9)
The 144,000 are selected by God to reveal Christ to every nation, kindred,
tongue and people prior to Christ's Second Coming. I believe they are
selected to fill the places of the 12 tribes of Israel by default; the Northern
kingdom, because of their period of abandonment which was probably permanent;
the places of the Southern kingdom -- Judah and Benjamin, because
of their continuing state of rebellion, which was to end after the last Gentile
was called in.
We must remember that those 144,000 represent the first fruits of this earth's
harvest (Rev.14:4), and will be personally selected by God. He alone
knows who each one will be. Being the firstfruits, we know they will
belong to Christ. We need also to remember this:
Gal. 3:29 -- If you belong to Christ, then you are
Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Then why do we try so hard to insist that those must come from literal
Israelites? We can see from the events which happen at that time that
this is unlikely. Some of them very well may be literal Jews who have
fully accepted Christ, but there would be a small pool of those to choose
144,000 from.
I believe these will mostly be represented by those wild olive branches which
will be grafted into the cultivated olive tree; this to replace those
(Israelites) who were removed for unbelief (Rom.11:17-20). These places
were what the literal Israelites were scheduled for, but lost by default.
Notice the insight the Lord gives us concerning the restoration of the Holy
Land and the source of its inhabitants after Christ's Second Coming:
Isa. 44:1-5 -- But now listen, O Jacob, my servant,
Israel, whom I have chosen. This is what the Lord says—...
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
They will spring up like
grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. One will say,
‘I belong to the Lord;’ (sounds like a Gentile Christian), another
will call himself by the name of Jacob; (obviously a literal Israelite),
still another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord's’ and will take the
name of Israel.
I believe this last group is referring to the 144,000. He writes on
his hand ‘The Lord's,’ and will take the name of Israel. If they were
literal Israelites they wouldn't need to take the name of Israel because
it would be their's already. He writes on his hand ‘The Lord's,’ but
remember the Lord has already branded him with His name. Notice
the description of the 144,000 in heaven where they have been redeemed from
the earth.
Rev. 14:1 -- Then I looked, and there before me
was the Lamb, standing on Mt. Zion, and with him 144,000 who had
His name and His Father's name written on their
foreheads.
What better way to indicate that these are ‘The Lord's?’ They are His
personal property because they are the firstfruits of earth's harvest.
The firstfruits always belong to the high priest in the earthly type, and
in the anti-type Christ is our high priest and this group follows Him wherever
He goes, for eternity, because they are His personal property.

In these days there was no king in Israel, every man did that which was right
in his own eyes.
Judges 21:25
The Twentieth Century has been ruled by Satan, the Lord of the earth, the
Prince of Darkness. It is the century granted by God to Satan, who requested
this time to test the Church.
On October 13, 1884, Pope Leo XIII experienced a vision in which he heard
Satan ask God for 100 years. Satan boasted that, if he were given sufficient
time and power, he could destroy the Church and drag the world to hell.
In 1982, Our Blessed Mother told Mirjana one of the visionaries at Medjugorje:
"Excuse me for this, but you must realize that Satan exists. One day he appeared
before the throne of God and asked permission to submit the Church to a period
of trial. God gave him permission to try the Church for one century. This
century is under the power of the devil, but when the secrets confided to
you come to pass, his power will be destroyed. Even now he is beginning to
lose his power and become aggressive. He is destroying marriages, creating
division among priests, and is responsible for obsessions and murder. You
must protect yourselves against these things through fasting and prayer,
especially community prayer. Carry blessed objects with you. Put them in
your house, and restore the use of holy water."
In 1634 in Quito, Ecuador, Our Blessed Mother warned about our present times.
In an apparition approved by the Church, Mary appeared as Our Lady of Good
Fortune to Mother Anne of Jesus Torres, while she was praying in front of
the Blessed Sacrament. The sanctuary light went out. While she was trying
to relight it, a supernatural light filled the church; in this light, the
Mother of God appeared. She told Mother Anne, "The sanctuary lamp burning
in front of the Prisoner of Love, which you saw go out, has many meanings."
"First meaning : At the end of the Nineteenth Century and for a large part
of the Twentieth Century, various heresies will flourish on this earth, which
will have become a free republic. The precious light of the faith will go
out in souls because of the almost total moral corruption. In those times
there will be great physical and moral calamities, in private and in public.
The little number of souls keeping the faith and practicing the virtues will
undergo cruel and unspeakable sufferings....
"Second Meaning : My communities will be abandoned; they will be swamped
in a fathomless sea of bitterness, and will seemed drowned in tribulations.
How many true vocations will be lost for lack of skillful and prudent direction
to form them! Each mistress of novices will need to be a soul of prayer,
knowing how to discern spirits.
"Third Meaning : In those times, the air will be filled with the spirit of
impurity which like a deluge of filth will flood the streets, squares and
public places. The licentiousness will be such that there will be no more
virgin souls in the world.
"Fourth Meaning : By gaining control of all the social classes, the sects
will tend to penetrate with great skill into the hearts of families and destroy
even the children. The devil will take glory in feeding perfidiously on the
hearts of children. The innocence of childhood will almost disappear. Thus
priestly vocations will be lost. It will be a real disaster. Priests will
abandon their sacred duties and will depart from the path marked for them
by God.
"Then the Church will go through a dark night for lack of a Prelate and Father
to watch over it with love, gentleness, strength and prudence, and numbers
of priests will lose the spirit of God, thus placing their souls in great
danger.... Satan will take control of this earth through the fault of faithless
men who, like a black cloud, will darken the clear sky of the republic
consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart of my divine Son. This republic, having
allowed entry to all the vices, will have to undergo all sorts of chastisements:
plagues, famine, war, apostasy, and the loss of souls without number. And
to scatter these black clouds blocking the brilliant dawning of the freedom
of the Church, there will be a terrible war in which the blood of priests
and of religious will flow.... That night will be so horrible that wickedness
will seem triumphant. Then will come my time: in astounding fashion I shall
destroy Satan's pride, casting him beneath my feet, chaining him up in the
depths of hell, leaving Church and country freed at last from his cruel tyranny.
"Fifth Meaning : Men possessing great wealth will look on with indifference
while the Church is oppressed, virtue is persecuted, and evil triumphs. They
will not use their wealth to fight evil and to reconstruct the faith. The
people will come to care nothing for the things of God, will absorb the spirit
of evil and will let themselves be swept away by all vices and passions."

Remember that in 1846 Our Lady of LaSalette told the visionary Melanie that
Lucifer together with a large number of demons would be released from hell
in 1864. She said they will put an end to faith little by little, even in
those dedicated to God. Evil books will be abundant on earth. The spirit
of darkness will spread everywhere. For a while the Church will yield to
a large persecution, a time of darkness and a frightful crisis.
Antichurch
Father Malachi Martin, in his book The Keys of This Blood , wrote that throughout
the Church, at the level of parish and diocese, among laypersons, nuns, priests,
and bishops, is the belief that the One, Holy, Apostolic Roman Catholic Church
ceased to exist after the Second Vatican Council. Its place was taken by
the "Conciliar Church," animated by the "spirit of Vatican II." It was no
longer called the "Roman Catholic Church" but instead the "people of God"
or the "Church."
Father Martin pointed out that the Church that now exists differs radically
from the pre-Conciliar Church on four major points:
The Conciliar Church lays no claim to exclusive possession of the means of
eternal salvation. All of us--Catholics, non-Catholics, and non-Christians--are
pilgrims approaching the same goal by different roads.
In the Conciliar Church, the local "community of faith" is the source of
religious enlightenment, guidance, and authority. Correct beliefs and correct
moral practice no longer come from a hierarchy of bishops submissive to the
central teaching authority of the Bishop of Rome.
The world-wide clusters of "communities of faith" have as their prime function
cooperating with "mankind in building and assuring the success of world peace
and world reform in the use of the earth's resources so as to eliminate economic
oppression and political imperialism."
The rules of the "former" Roman Catholic Church on issues such as contraception,
marriage, death, and sexuality must be brought into fraternal alignment with
the outlook, desires, and practices of the world at large.
The Conciliar Church And The Mass
In 1963, Pope Paul VI established the Concilium, which consisted of some
200 individuals, many of whom had functioned as Conciliar periti ("experts")
during Vatican Council II. It was to this committee that Pope Paul VI entrusted
the duty of carrying out the liturgical reform mandated by Vatican II. At
its head was Archbishop Annibale Bugnini, who allegedly enjoyed well-established
connections with Freemasonry. The Concilium was helped by six Protestant
"observers", whom Paul VI publicly thanked for their assistance in re-editing
new liturgical texts.
According to the statements of Paul VI, the changes were made: 1) to bring
the Church's liturgy into line with modem mentality; 2) in obedience to the
mandate of Vatican II; 3) to take cognizance of progress in liturgical studies;
4) to return to primitive practice; and 5) for "pastoral" reasons.
Archbishop Bugnini, the Secretary of Consilium, and the Reverend Peter Coughlan
stated that the Instruction would treat of theological principles, constitute
a full theological exposition of the new rite, describe the New Mass from
a doctrinal point of view, and serve as an "introduction of a doctrinal
character."
Archbishop Bugnini, Pope Paul VI's executive officer in the creation of the
Novus Ordo Missae (New Order of the Mass), described the result as "a new
song" and as "the conquest of the Church." Cardinal Benelli, one of the principal
architects of the new liturgy, stated that it reflects a "new Ecclesiology."
The "New Mass," or the Novus Ordo Missae, was first offered publicly in the
Sistine Chapel before a Synod of Bishops in October 1967. At that time it
was called the Missa Normativa, or Normative Mass. The bishops present were
polled as to whether it should be implemented: seventy-one voted yes, sixty-two
voted yes with reservations, and forty-three rejected it outright. To accommodate
the wishes of this last group, a number of minor changes were made, including
restoration of two of the traditional Offertory prayers.
Some worried bishops intervened in what is now called the Ottaviani Intervention.
The central contention of the Ottaviani Intervention is that the New Order
of Mass teems with dangerous errors in doctrine and represents an attack
against the Catholic teaching on the Mass. The authors of the Intervention
stated that their intention was not to present an exhaustive treatment of
all the problems the New Mass poses, but rather to point out those deviations
from Catholic doctrine and practice which are most typical of the New Mass.
Among these the Intervention lists are the following:
A new definition of the Mass, as an "assembly," rather than a sacrifice offered
to God;
Omissions of elements emphasizing the Catholic teaching (utterly repudiated
by Protestants) that the Mass makes satisfaction for sins;
The reduction of the priest's role to a position approximating that of a
Protestant minister;
Implicit denials of Christ's Real Presence and the doctrine of
Transubstantiation;
The change of the Consecration from a sacramental action into a mere narrative
retelling of the story of the Last Supper;
The fragmenting of the Church's unity of belief through the introduction
of countless options; and
Ambiguous language and equivocation throughout the rite which compromise
the Church's doctrines.
Pope Paul VI promulgated the New Order of the Mass after responding to the
Ottaviani intervention. The use of the Roman Missal of 1962 was authorized
by Pope John Paul II in October 1984, only as long as those using it agreed
that the New Order of the Mass is valid. The Holy Spirit continues to guide
the Church and vouchsafe its authority under the guidance of the Magisterium,
Scripture, and Tradition.
Divine Appeal Revelations
Sister Anna Ali, born December 29, 1966, in Kenya, and baptized in April
1979, was brought up in the Moslem faith. Her father was a devout Moslem
but her parents split over the issue of the Catholic faith of the mother.
Sister Anna has apparitions of Jesus, and writes down His words. Her revelations
focus on Eucharistic devotion. Sister Anna's messages have been approved
by her bishop. 9
The Holy Sacrifice Abolished?
Our Lord has told Sister Anna that the devil is making every effort to abolish
His Presence and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The devil is using many
lost souls and even many consecrated ones, who are working hard in this endeavor.
More than ever before, says the Lord, the Freemasons attack His Divine Sacrament
of Love in the tabernacle. They have all agreed to abolish the Mass.
In the Divine Appeal Number 4: Our Lord said: "Pray a great deal for humanity;
the world is growing from bad to worse. The devil is making every effort
to abolish the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Divine Justice is prepared to
act with My eyes fixed on Heaven . It will be terribly frightful as if it
were the end of the world. But the end has not arrived" (September 23, 1987).
In Divine Appeal Number 35, Our Lord said, "Pray for the many lost souls
and many of My Own consecrated ones. The devil is using them in order to
abolish the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass" (November 1, 1987).
In Divine Appeal Number 46, He said, "These times are My difficult hours
when the devil is making every effort to abolish the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass.... Pray, pray for those who ridicule, abuse, condemn and more than
in the past, step on Me in order to abolish My Presence in the Sacrament
of Love" (December 5, 1987).
In Divine Appeal Number 47, He said, "My own.. are labouring hard to abolish
My Presence and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass" (December 6, 1987).
In Divine Appeal Number 53, He said, "The devil is giving battle against
My Divine Sacrament of Love. I am so abused and blasphemed. My own.. are
labouring hard to abolish My Presence in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass"
(December 14, 1987).
In Divine Appeal Number 54, Our Lord said, "These are the dark hours when
the devil is using My Own...who are labouring hard to destroy the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass and to destroy souls in order to lead them to perdition. My
sacraments are abandoned and despised; My mysteries are blasphemed. Continuously,
and more than ever before, the Freemasons attack My Divine Sacrament of Love
in the tabernacle" (December 15, 1987).
In Divine Appeal 70, He said, "Time is approaching when My church will be
devastated and sacked. My Own...have become like enraged lions. There are
many sacrileges committed against My Presence in the tabernacles. Many have
lost their dignity and light of reason. The devil has chained their hearts.
Led by him they labour hard to abolish the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The
chalice is filled" (January 18, 1988).
In Divine Appeal 71, Jesus said, "The Freemasons are abusing Me in the
tabernacles and in My very Gospel. The iniquity is repugnant. Unite your
heart to My tears of blood. These are the moments they are laboring hard
to abolish My Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.... Evil concerns are in the hands
of the Freemasons. They have all agreed to abolish the Mass.... Satan is
in the midst of their ranks. I assure you that souls are allied with Satan.
My great love for mankind keeps me day and night in the Blessed Sacrament.
How much pain do I receive from their treason and indignity! With many sins,
revenge cries out on My Eternal Father's behalf. I desire mankind to be saved.
No one goes to hell without his consent. I am calling all back to My sheepfold.
The world has lost its senses" (January 19, 1988).
Scripture also speaks of the abolition of the daily sacrifice. Daniel 12:
4-13 speaks of the daily sacrifice actually being abolished for a period
of 1, 290 days: "As for you, Daniel, keep secret the message and seal the
book until the end time; many shall fall away and evil shall increase."
"I, Daniel, looked and saw two others, one standing on either bank of the
river. One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was upstream, 'How
long shall it be to the end of these appalling things?' The man clothed in
linen, who was upstream, lifted his right and left hands to Heaven; and I
heard him swear by Him Who lives forever that it should be a year, two years,
a half-year; and that, when the power of the destroyer of the holy people
was brought to an end, all these things should end. I heard, but I did not
understand; so I asked, 'My lord, what follows this?' 'Go, Daniel,' he said,
'because the words are to be kept secret and sealed until the end time. Many
shall be refined, purified, and tested, but the wicked shall prove wicked;
none of them shall have understanding, but the wise shall have it. From the
time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the horrible abomination is
set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed
is the man who has patience and perseveres until the one thousand three hundred
and thirty-five days. Go, take your rest, you shall rise for your reward
at the end of days ."'
The December 31, 1992, message of Our Lady to Father Gobbi stated: "The Holy
Mass is the daily sacrifice, the pure oblation which is offered to the Lord
everywhere, from the rising of the sun to its going down. The sacrifice of
the Mass renews that which was accomplished by Jesus on Calvary. By accepting
the protestant doctrine, people will hold that the Mass is not a sacrifice
but only a sacred meal, that is to say, a remembrance of that which Jesus
did at His Last Supper. And thus, the celebration of Holy Mass will be
suppressed. In this abolition of the daily sacrifice consists the horrible
sacrilege accomplished by the Antichrist, which will last about three-and-a-half
years, namely, 1, 290 days."
Further Schisms Prophesied
Several people recognized by the Church have spoken about the predicted schism
and events related to it:
Blessed Anna-Katarina Emmerick
In the 1820s, Blessed Anna-Katarina Emmerick, an Augustinian nun and stigmatist
had visions of the Church in the future. On May 13, 1820, she stated, "I
saw also the relationship between the two popes... I saw how baleful would
be the consequences of this false church. I saw it increase in size; heretics
of every kind came into the city [of Rome]. The local clergy grew lukewarm,
and I saw a great darkness.... Once more I saw that the Church of Peter was
undermined by a plan evolved by the secret sect, while storms were damaging
it.
"But I saw also that help was coming when distress had reached its peak.
I saw again the Blessed Virgin ascend on the Church and spread her mantle
[over it]. I saw a Pope who was at once gentle, and very firm.... I saw a
great renewal, and the Church rode high in the sky."
On September 12, 1820, she said: "I saw a strange church being built against
every rule.... No angels were supervising the building operations. In that
church nothing came from high above.... There was only division and chaos.
It's probably a church of human creation, following the latest fashion, as
well as the new heterodox church of Rome, which seems of the same kind....
I saw again the strange big church that was being built there [in Rome].
There was nothing holy in it.... Everything was being done according to human
reason. I saw all sorts of people, things, doctrines, and opinions. There
was something proud, presumptuous, and violent about it, and they seemed
to be very successful. I did not see a single angel nor a single saint helping
in the work. But far away in the background, I saw the seat of a cruel people
armed with spears, and I saw a laughing figure which said: 'Do build it as
solid as you can; we will pull it to the ground."'
From August to October 1820: "I see more martyrs, not now but in the future....
I saw the secret sect relentlessly undermining the great Church. Near them
I saw a horrible beast coming up from the sea.... When the Church had been
for the most part destroyed [by the secret sect], and when only the sanctuary
and altar were still standing, I saw the wreckers enter the Church with the
Beast. There they met a Woman of noble carriage who seemed to be with child
because she walked slowly. At this sight, the enemies were terrorized, and
the Beast could not take but another step forward. It projected its neck
towards the Woman as if to devour her, but the Woman turned about and bowed
down [towards the altar], her head touching the ground. Thereupon, I saw
the Beast taking to flight towards the sea again, and the enemies were fleeing
in the greatest confusion.... Then, I saw that the Church was being promptly
rebuilt, and she was more magnificent than ever before."
On October 1, 1820: "The Church is in great danger. We must pray so that
the Pope may not leave Rome; countless evils would result if he did. They
are now demanding something from him. The Protestant doctrine and that of
the schismatic Greeks are to spread everywhere. I now see that in this place
[Rome] the [Catholic] Church is being so cleverly undermined, that there
hardly remain a hundred or so priests who have not been deceived. They all
work for destruction, even the clergy. A great devastation is now near at
hand."
On April 20, 1820: "I had another vision of the great tribulation. It seems
to me that a concession was demanded from the clergy which could not be granted.
I saw many older priests, especially one, who wept bitterly. A few younger
ones were also weeping. But others, and the lukewarm among them, readily
did what was demanded. It was as if people were splitting into two camps."
On April 22, 1823: "I saw that many pastors allowed themselves to be taken
up with ideas that were dangerous to the Church. They were building a great,
strange, and extravagant Church. Everyone was to be admitted in it in order
to be united and have equal rights:
Evangelicals, Catholics, sects of every description. Such was to be the new
Church.... But God had other designs."
"I see that when the Second Coming of Christ approaches, a bad priest will
do much harm to the Church. When the time of the reign of Antichrist is near,
a false religion will appear which will be opposed to the unity of God and
His Church. This will cause the greatest schism the world has ever known.
The nearer the time of the end, the more the darkness of Satan will spread
on earth, the greater will be the number of the children of corruption, and
the number of the just will correspondingly diminish." 10
Antipope, No Pope
Nothing is new under the sun. The Church in her history has often been plagued
by schism, apostasy, and two popes simultaneously claiming the same throne.
Prophecies as well as some recent events seem to indicate we may be headed
in the same direction: The Petrine Keys of John Paul II may soon be sought
by another, as dissenters and false teachers in the Vatican become more open
and rebellious.
Richard Langley in Signs of the Times has illustrated the historical precedent
for the Antipope. "There have been at least thirty-seven Antipopes in history.
The Great Western Schism came about after the election of Pope Urban VI,
April 8, 1378. On August 2, 1378 the Cardinals issued a statement that the
election was invalid, claiming they were pressured into electing him out
of fear. They demanded that Urban VI resign his office. He refused so they
elected another pope, who called himself Clement VII, who went to Avignon.
Each pope excommunicated the other and claimed him to be schismatic and deposed.
Both appeared to be validly elected. Countries, saints of the Church, and
religious orders were split by this. The Franciscans elected two Master generals
of their order, one supported one pope, the other the other pope. Confusion
reigned. Who to follow? A Council was called in Constance in 1414 to resolve
this.
"The Council of Constance declared that general councils were superior to
the pope, and had set up, in the resolution of the Western Schism, the mandate
that the Church be ruled by general councils. After the Council of Constance,
this idea originally subscribed to by the opposing sides was subsequently
ignored and refuted by Martin V and his successors, who did however call
some general councils. The canons of the council mandating this were declared
invalid, but the remaining ones for the most part were accepted as valid
and the Council of Constance was listed as a valid ecumenical council.
"Although the principle had been that only a pope could call a general council,
the idea grew that the real authority was vested in the episcopate as a whole
and that general councils were superior to the authority of the pope at any
time and not in emergencies, a view known as conciliarism. The pope was
considered a figurehead. Subsequent popes had to fight to restore their supremacy
over councils and bishops.
"This problem plagued the Church until the declaration of the Infallibility
of the Pope by Vatican I, July 18, 1870. This Council was permanently suspended
during the Italian Revolution, due to the entrance of Garibaldi's troops
into Rome in July of 1870, leaving incomplete the Church's position on the
collegial relationship between all the bishops of the world as a body and
the pope. This was partly resolved in Vatican II, at which time, out of three
competing interpretations, Pope Paul VI's position, after his intervention
with a Preliminary Explanatory Note, was accepted by the Council. His position
was that the pope personally was the subject of supreme power in the Church,
and also the college of bishops when united to its head, the pope. This meant
that the episcopal college could not exercise its supreme power independently
of the pope ."
Mr. Langley further stated: "There is a direct connection between the national
episcopal conference's rise to power and the notion of collegiality. The
national episcopal conferences, councils of bishops...are purely human
institutions, since as Cardinal Ratzinger has publicly stated they are not
hierarchically instituted. They have however begun to act at times independently
of Rome. This tends to foster the idea of a "national church" which could
lead to schism."
Catholic prophecy warns us of severe problems threatening the papacy in these
end times. One realistic scenario for our time centers on the persecution
of Catholics who follow the teachings of the true Church. When Pope John
Paul II is among us no longer, the general indication from today's seers--as
well as from thoughtful observers of the Church--is that chaos will be in
our midst. An Antipope will seize papal authority, and the faithful element
in the Church will be subjected to intense persecutions. Prophecy tells us
of persecution like never before in history for those who follow the teachings
of the Church. It will be those who hold fast to the truths of the faith
who will be labeled as the perpetrators of this horrible schism, according
to some visionaries.
The Pope Overthrown
Blessed Joachim (d. 1202): "Toward the end of the world, Antichrist will
overthrow the pope and usurp his See."
Pope Flees Rome
John of Vitiguerro (Thirteenth Century): "The pope will change his residence
and the Church will not be defended for twenty-five months or more because,
during all that time there will be no Pope in Rome.... After many tribulations,
a Pope shall be elected out of those who survived the persecutions."
Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi (Nineteenth Century): "Religion shall be persecuted,
and priests massacred. Churches shall be closed, but only for a short time.
The Holy Father shall be obliged to leave Rome."
No Pope
Maria Steiner (Nineteenth Century): "I see the Lord as He will be scourging
the world and chastising it in a fearful manner so that few men and women
will remain... The Holy Church will be persecuted, and Rome will be without
a shepherd. But the Lord showed me how beautiful the world will be after
this awful punishment." 15
The Pope is Killed
Saint Hildegard (d. 1179): "One of the remaining Mohammedans will be converted,
become a priest, bishop and cardinal, and when the new Pope is elected
(immediately before Antichrist) this cardinal will kill the pope before he
is crowned, through jealousy, he wishing to be pope himself; then when the
other cardinals elect the next pope this cardinal will proclaim himself
Anti-Pope, and two thirds of the Christians will go with him."
Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (d. 1658), "Antichrist and his army will
conquer Rome, kill the Pope and take the throne."
Two More Popes
At Garabandal, Spain, Our Blessed Mother in 1962 told Conchita, one of the
visionaries that, "there would be only two more popes after Pope Paul VI
and that one of the popes would have a very short reign. But this does not
mean that the world will come to an end."
Antichrist
Antichrist in the broad sense of the word is anyone who denies that Jesus
is the Christ (1 John 2:18-22). Throughout history the spirit of antichrist
is spoken of with a small "a." The Scriptures speak of the Antichrist as
a person, an individual. It is the physical manifestation of a man. At LaSalette
Mary warned, "Rome will loose the faith and become the seat of Antichrist."
In the Marian Movement of Priests on June 17, 1989, Our Lady spoke at length
about the Antichrist. She said that at the peak of the apostasy and tribulation
the door would be open for the appearance of the Antichrist. Echoing Scripture,
she said that people would not be able to buy or sell without the mark of
the Beast.
"Before the coming of our Divine Savior there were many prophecies and figures
given of Him. It shall be the same for Antichrist. The prophet Daniel speaks
of him in a literal and mystical sense in four different chapters (namely,
7, 9, 11, and 12), while Saint Matthew (24), Saint Mark (13), Saint John
(5), Saint Paul's Second Epistle to the Thessalonians, Saint John in his
first and second Epistles, and especially the Apocalypse (13), etc., tell
us of his future or coming event. A few decades ago it was quite a difficult
problem for theologians to explain how Antichrist would bring the whole world
under his political and religious dominion."
Antichrist is a person who rules for a period of time according to the end
day prediction in the book of Daniel. In the book of Daniel, the Archangel
Michael is spoken about as the great prince who protects the people in the
end days. Daniel writes, "There will be a time of distress such as has not
happened from the beginning of nations..." (Daniel 12:1). The passages speak
of great distress and the perpetual sacrifice of the Mass being abolished
for three-and-a half years. The abomination being erected could be the Antichrist
sitting in Rome during his reign causing distress and nearly unbelievable
pain on the earth, "such has not happened from the beginning of the nations."
The religious and secular stages have been set for his imminent appearance.
Our Blessed Mother in her locutions to Father Gobbi, on September 18, 1988,
hinted at the ominous events awaiting us in the next few years: "In this
period of ten years there will come to completion that fullness of time which
was a pointed out to you by me, beginning with LaSalette all the way to my
most recent and present apparitions.... In the period of ten years the mystery
of iniquity, prepared for by the ever increasing spread of apostasy, will
become manifest."
Our Blessed Mother at LaSalette spoke about the Antichrist: "It will be during
that time that the Antichrist will be born of a Hebrew nun, a false virgin
who will communicate with the old serpent, the master of impurity, his father
will be B. At birth, he will spew out blasphemy; he will have teeth, in a
word, he will be the devil incarnate. He will scream horribly, he will perform
wonders, he will feed on nothing but impurity. He will have brothers who,
although not devils incarnate like him, will be children of evil. At the
age of twelve, they will draw attention upon themselves by the gallant victories
they will have won; soon they will lead armies, aided by the legions of hell....
"Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the Antichrist. The Church
will be in eclipse, the world will be in dismay . But now Enoch and Eli will
come, filled with the spirit of God. They will preach the might of God, and
men of good will believe in God, and many souls will be comforted. They will
make great steps forward through the virtue of the Holy Spirit and will condemn
the devilish lapses of the Antichrist. There will be bloody wars and famines,
plagues and infectious diseases. It will rain a fearful hail of animals.
There will be thunderstorms which will shake cities, earthquakes which will
swallow up countries. Voices will be heard in the air. Men will beat their
heads against walls, call for their death, and on another side death will
be their torment. Blood will flow on all sides. Who will be the victor if
God does not shorten the length of the test?
"All the blood, the tears, and the prayers of the righteous, God will relent.
Enoch and Eli will be put to death. Pagan Rome will disappear. It is time;
the sun is darkening; only faith will survive. Now is the time; the abyss
is opening. Here is the king of kings of darkness, here is the Beast with
his subjects, calling himself the Savior of the world. He will rise proudly
into the air to go to Heaven. He will fall, and the earth, which will have
been in a continuous series of evolutions for three days, will open its fiery
bowels; and he will have plunged for eternity with all his followers into
the everlasting chasms, of hell. And then water and fire will purge the earth
and consume all the works of men's pride and all will be renewed. God will
be served and glorified."
Several past prophets in Church history have written about the physical
manifestation of the mystery of iniquity becoming a man who rules. The Fathers
and Saints of the Church have pondered deeply over what Scripture tells us
about the Antichrist and his reign:
Saint Hippolytus (d. 235): "John says, 'I will give power unto my two witnesses,
and they shall prophecy a thousand and two hundred and threescore days, clothed
in sackcloth. That is the half of the week whereof Daniel spake. These are
the two olive trees and the two candlesticks standing before the Lord of
the earth.. For this is what the prophets Enoch and Elias will preach.
"Let us observe somewhat in detail what Daniel says in his visions. For in
distinguishing the kingdoms that are to rise after these things, he showed
also the coming of Antichrist in the last times, and the consummation of
the whole world. Daniel says: 'And one week will make a covenant with many,
and it shall be that in the midst (half) of the week my sacrifice and oblation
shall cease.' By one week, therefore, he meant the last week which is to
be at the end of the whole world....
"In every respect that deceiver seeks to make himself appear like the Son
of God. Christ is a lion, and the Antichrist is a lion. Christ is King of
things celestial and things terrestrial, and Antichrist will be king upon
earth. The Savior was manifested as a lamb; and he, too, will appear as a
lamb, while he is a wolf within.
"When Daniel says, 'I shall make a covenant for one week,' he indicated even
years; and the one half of the week is for preaching of the prophets, and
for the other half of the week--that is to say, for three years and a
half--Antichrist will reign upon the earth. And after this his kingdom and
his glory will be taken away. And by reason of the scarcity of food, all
will go to him and worship him; and he will put his mark on their right hand
and on their forehead, that no one may put the sign of the honorable cross
upon his forehead with his right hand; but his hand is bound.... And his
seal upon the forehead and upon the right hand is the number, six hundred
threescore and six."
Origen (d. 254): "When the close of the times draws nigh, a great prophet
[Elias] shall be sent from God to turn men to the knowledge of God, and he
shall receive the power of doing wonderful things. Wherever men shall not
hear him, he will shut up the heavens, and cause it to withhold its rains;
he will turn their water into blood; and torment them with thirst and hunger;
and if any one shall endeavor to injure him fire shall come forth out of
his mouth, and shall burn that man.
"By these prodigies and powers he shall turn many to the worship of God;
and when his works shall be accomplished, another king shall arise out of
Syria, born from an evil spirit, the overthrower and destroyer of the human
race [Antichrist], who shall destroy that which is left by the former evil,
together with himself....
"But that king will not only disgrace himself, but will also be a prophet
of lies; and he will constitute and call himself God; and power will be given
him to do signs and wonders, by the sight of which he may entice men to adore
him. He will command fire to come down from Heaven, and the sun to stand
and leave its course, and an image to speak, and these things shall be done
at his words--by which miracles many even of the wise shall be enticed by
him.
"Then he will attempt to destroy the temple of God, and persecute the righteous
people; and there will be distress and tribulation, such as there never has
been from the beginning of the world. Power will be given him to desolate
the whole earth for forty-two months. That will be the time in which
righteousness will be cast out, and innocence be hated; in which the wicked
shall prey upon the good as enemies; neither law, nor order, nor military
discipline be preserved."
Saint John Chrysostom (d. 407): "The world will be faithless and degenerate
after the birth of Antichrist. Antichrist will be possessed by Satan and
be the illegitimate son of a Jewish woman from the East."
Saint Augustine (d. 430): "Daniel prophesies of the Last Judgment in such
a way as to indicate that Antichrist shall first come, and to carry on his
description to the eternal reign of the saints.... But he who reads this
passage, even half asleep, cannot fail to see that the kingdom of Antichrist
shall fiercely, though for a short time, assail the Church before the last
judgment of God shall introduce the eternal reign of saints. For it is patent
from the context that the time, times, and half a time, means a year, and
two years, and a half a year, that is to say, three years and a half."
Saint John Damascene (d. 770): "He will be known as Antichrist who shall
come about the end of the world. His mother will proclaim she gave birth
to him while remaining a virgin. He will reign from ocean to ocean. Antichrist
shall be an illegitimate child, under the complete power of Satan, and God,
knowing his incredible future perversity, will allow the devil to take a
full and perpetual possession of him from his very sinful conception."
Saint Hildegard (d. 1179): "The Son of Corruption and Ruin will appear and
reign only for a short time, towards the end of the days of the world's
duration.... He shall come in the last days of the world. He shall not be
Satan himself, but a human being equaling and resembling him in atrocious
hideousness. His mother, a depraved woman, possessed by the devil, will live
as a prostitute in the desert.... She will maintain that her son was presented
to her by God in a supernatural manner, as was the Child of the Blessed Virgin.
She will then be venerated as a saint by deceived people.
"Antichrist will come from a land that lies between two seas, and will practice
tyranny in the East. After his birth false teachers and doctrines will appear,
followed by wars, famines, and pestilence.... He will be raised at different
secret places and will be kept in seclusion until full grown. He will lure
the people to him by giving them complete exemption from the observance of
all divine and ecclesiastical commandments, by forgiving them their sins
and requiring of them only their belief in his divinity. He will spurn and
reject Baptism and the Gospel. He will say Jesus of Nazareth is not the son
of God, only a deceiver....
"He will say I am the Savior of the world...especially will he try to convince
the Jews that he is the Messiah sent by God, and the Jews will accept him
as such...yet by his moral laws he will try to reverse all order on earth.
Therefore he is called in Holy Writ the 'Lawless One'.... He will discard
all laws, morals, and religious principles, to draw the world to himself.
He will grant entire freedom from the commandments of God and the Church
and permit everyone to live as his passion dictates.... Religion he will
endeavor to make convenient. He will say that you need not fast and embitter
your life by renunciation.... It will suffice to love God.... He will preach
free love and tear asunder family ties...maintain sin and vice are not sin
and vice.... Immediately preceding Antichrist there will be starvation and
earthquakes ."
Saint Bridget of Sweden (d. 1373): "The time of Antichrist will be near when
the measure of injustice will overflow and when wickedness has grown to immense
proportions, when the Christians love heresies and the unjust trample underfoot
the servants of God.
"At the end of this age, the Antichrist will be born. As Christ was born
from the highest type of womanhood [Virgin] so Antichrist will be born from
the lowest [prostitute]. He will be a child-wonder at birth. His mother will
be an accursed woman, who will pretend to be well-informed in spiritual things,
and his father will be an accursed man, from the seed of whom the devil shall
form his work. The time of this Antichrist, well-known to me, will come when
iniquity and impiety shall above measure abound, when injustice shall have
filled the measure to overflowing, and wickedness shall have grown to
immeasurable proportions.... He will reign during three years, and shall
have dominion over the whole earth.... In the year 1980 the wicked shall
prevail ."
Jeanne Le Royer (d. 1798), also known as Sister Mary of the Nativity : "Many
precursors, false prophets, and members of infernal secret societies, worshippers
of Satan, shall impugn the most sacred dogmas and doctrines of our holy religion,
shall persecute the faithful, shall commit abominable actions; but the real
and extreme abomination and desolation shall more fully be accomplished during
the reign of Antichrist, which shall last about three years and a half. Woe,
woe, woe to the last century which is descending! What tribulations precede
its commencements. Out of this mighty voice I recognized that these woeful
tribulations will make their appearance in the age before the judgment. And
as I pondered over and weighed, in God, the century, I saw, that which begins
with 1800 will not yet be the last. I see that when the Second Coming of
Christ approaches, a bad priest will do much harm to the Church.
"When the time of the reign of Antichrist is near, a false religion will
appear which will be opposed to the unity of God and His Church. This will
cause the greatest schism the world has ever known. The nearer the time of
the end, the more the darkness of Satan will spread on earth, the greater
will be the number of the children of corruption, and the number of the just
will correspondingly diminish.
"Antichrist will kill the Pope, probably by crucifixion. As a child of ten
he will know more than anyone else in the world and when he is thirty he
will begin his real work. Fifteen days after the ascension of Enoch and Eli
as into Heaven, terrible catastrophes will come upon the earth: most severe
earthquakes, tidal waves inundating much of the earth's surface, culminating
in a thick darkness over the entire earth."
The Stage is Set
Events in the world are happening at such an accelerated pace that we can
barely comprehend them. Our human faculties have difficulty understanding
and following the strategic movements of Heaven and hell as they battle for
control of the world and its people. The mystery of iniquity is in our midst.
Major precursors of the Antichrist such as Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, and Mao
have all come and gone in this century.
According to the 1982 revelations to Eileen George of
Massachusetts from God the Father, another precursor is due to arrive in
the Middle East between 1990 and 1999, followed by the Antichrist who is
already alive and who supposedly comes from Syria. The identity of these
two, the precursor antichrist and the Antichrist, is at the present time
masked under a cloak of secrecy.
The battle is being waged in the areas of finance, politics, society, family,
and religion. As Scripture tells us, Satan is the Prince of this world. In
contrast, Jesus specifically said His kingdom is not of this world. All that
is of God, Satan hates and seeks to destroy.
The one-world government introduced by many of the antichrists has been planned
over many generations. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, "In politics, nothing
happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way."
The structure has been developed gradually through the years by the secret
societies of the Beast. The hidden agenda, known only to the privileged few,
is nothing short of one-world government, under one ruler. It is to be in
place between 1995 and 1998 and will replace all sovereign nations.
The United Nations is the enforcement body of the structure in its present
evolutionary form. President Bush during the Persian Gulf War spoke about
the New World Order, a term which surprised almost everyone by its frequent
use--all but those few powerful persons in the know. Soviet Prime Minister
Edward Shevardnadze told the United Nations in reference to Iraq's assault
on Kuwait, "An act of terrorism has been perpetrated against the emerging
New World Order."
Annoying disruptions in the New World Order, if they are not in the plans
of those in control, are promptly crushed. Economic control is one tentacle
of this octopus-like movement. The control will always be in the hands of
the large multinational banks. They will admit only those nations who will
play by the rules they set. Because the need for capital is so great, no
nation can survive without the help of large lending institutions. The lending
agencies have enjoyed controlling the destinies of nations for a very long
time. This control will increase. Conformity to the world lending rules is
a must for the survival of a nation. A nation must conform or perish.
Technological advances will also help to allow a world-wide government to
rule. With transactions of all sorts speeding around the globe through fiber
optics, satellites, very small aperture terminals, compatible computers,
centralized data bases, mobile telephones, and other methods of communicating
via wireless means, new vistas have opened up for the world. The credit card
with a microprocessor chip will allow debit and credit from anywhere at anytime.
All transactions will feed into a few main databases--under the control
ultimately of Big Brother. The chip will store massive amounts of information
and will become each person's identity on plastic. An identity like a social
security number will be issued to eliminate credit card abuse. The bar code
or universal product code will be a very effective tracking method for all
purchases. All transactions will be scanned, and the use of the physical
property of money will gradually decrease. The personal computer that began
in a very primitive form in a California garage in 1979 now has powerful
workstations and distributed architecture.
With geometric growth in technology each year, the speed of change will go
beyond our grasp to understand. Tom Peters, the author of In Search of Excellence
and Liberation Management recently said, "technology will cause us to go
bonkers this year, bonkers squared next year, and bonkers cubed the year
after." 31 The free flow of information along data highways being piped into
our homes and offices will permit unimaginable control by a small elite.
Ecclesiastical control has been accomplished through the secret societies,
modernism, and the World Council of Churches, with the goal of one New Age
or watered-down ecumenical church. The breakdown of Catholicism needed to
happen first before this could take place. In the past, the Roman Catholic
Church was too well organized and too strong. It had to be dismantled, and
it had to happen first from within. Recall earlier where the book AA 1025
was discussed; the book detailed how a communist secret agent infiltrated
the Church. One thousand and twenty-four men are said to have preceded the
anti-apostle AA 1025 into Catholic seminaries--and hundreds more followed
him into the Church as priests.
Our Blessed Mother, through Father Gobbi has told us a great deal about
Ecclesiastical Masonry and the damage it is doing. At LaSalette Our Blessed
Mother told us about this destruction in great detail. Today we are in the
final act as the Church fights for its survival. The one hundred-year reign
of Satan has taken its toll.
One-World Government
The armies are poised for battle. Satan has his cohort; Mary has hers. The
tactics could not be more dissimilar. Mary's plan, which is God's plan, is
prayer, fasting, penance, reconciliation. We are to love one another, be
humble, little, docile. We are to become as little children, to be guided
by Mary our mother and by Our Lord. Satan's plan uses the false idols of
money, power, lust, greed, clothed in pride.
The political, financial, and ecclesiastical clout of the people working
behind the scenes for the development of a one-world government is overwhelming.
Were it not for the apparitions of Mary, the Mother of God, the Prophetess
of Our Times, and her detailed messages to Father Gobbi and others, we would
know little about the evolving Satanic plan which has nearly come to fruition.
For an in-depth account of how masterfully this Satanic plan is being executed
on all powerful secular and ecclesiastical fronts read the account by Gary
Kah in his book, En Route to Global Occupation . It outlines in detail the
structure of secular control through reputable organizations which are household
names. He warns that national sovereignty will soon be a thing of the past.
Political forces around the world are now cooperating in an unprecedented
fashion to achieve their goal of uniting the people of this planet under
a New World Order.
The umbrella organization actually charged with the task of bringing us into
the New World Order is called The World Constitution and Parliament Association
(WCPA). It has many financial supports. The agenda of the New World Order
is being funded by literally hundreds of organizations. One is the Lucis
Trust--called at first the Lucifer Trust . To name a secular organization
the Lucifer Trust shows the boldness and confidence of the men behind this
movement. But the use of such a name is really not surprising; the philosophy
driving the creation of the New World Order is heavily indebted to the New
Age, old pagan practices, Masonry, and the occult.
The members proposing a New World Order are a Who's Who of the world
establishment, secular and ecclesiastic. Their agenda is control; their tactics,
deceit. Most of the key players sit on the boards or committees of a few
powerful organizations: the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), the Trilateral
Commission, the Bilderbergers, and the Club of Rome. Often members of one
organization will be involved with several of the others as well.
On September 17, 1973, the Club of Rome published a special, highly confidential
report called the "Regionalized and Adaptive Model of the Global World System,"
which was sent to the power elite to be implemented. This document reveals
that the Club has divided the world into ten political/economic regions,
which it refers to as "kingdoms" --a designation that tracks eerily with
the terminology used in the Book of Revelation, Chapter 13:1-2. In 1974 the
authors of the report, Mihaljo Mesarovic and Edward Pestel published their
findings in a book Mankind at the Turning Point . However, in this book,
which is intended for public consumption, they have dropped the word "kingdom."
The people belonging to these powerful organizations are high-ranking United
Nations officials, noted world leaders, noted politicians, bankers, World
Bank and International Monetary Fund officials, clergy, members of the World
Future Society, top-level Masons, and people either inadvertently or purposely
promoting a oneworld government. The Systems which they have developed are
now in place to allow such a government with a leader to surface and rule
between 1995 and 1998.
The foundation for this one world government was planned consciously by a
political and financial elite. Much of the groundwork was laid 16 years ago,
when the Constitution for the Federation Earth was adopted in June 1977.
This Constitution was first adopted at Innsbruck, Austria, at a meeting of
the World Constituent Assembly--an event sponsored by the WCPA. The WCPA
does not consider the United Nations part of its planned New World Order,
but more than 20 percent of WCPA members belong to the United Nations. The
WCPA plans to replace the UN--much like the UN replaced the League of Nations.
The Constitution for the Federation Earth was signed by 135 participants
from twenty-five countries, and is intended to replace the UN Charter to
become the centerpiece of the New World Order.
Gary Kah has a detailed "Diagram Of World Government under the Constitution
For The Federation of Earth." The WCPA cites forty-nine problems of international
concern, which it says point to the need for a one-world government. Fifteen
deal with the environment, seven with military concerns (disarmament, prevention
of war and terrorism), six with world hunger and poverty, four with international
monetary matters. The WCPA bases its main argument for a New World Order
on the threat of an impending climactic crisis.
The environmental movement is probably the most powerful lobby today for
a one world government--it is the trigger to send the bullet for conformity.
Indeed, no one can deny the need to clean up the planet. Chernobyl is a prime
example. Chernobyl fallout traveled over thousands of miles and as far north
as Sweden and Lapland in a matter of days. Chernobyl showed that the whole
Soviet system was in a meltdown--and in a few seconds it blasted into oblivion
the claim that communism had shaped a society technologically superior, more
caring, more efficient, and more honest than that of the corrupt West--and
was more caring of its people, more efficient, and more honest. Chernobyl
had become a symbol of the whole rotting communist system, with its callous,
self-seeking bureaucrats, its barbarous robot-like enforcers, and its deceitful
ideologists, whose lies were designed to tranquilize the Russian people into
mindless docility. In the view of the other nations, what went on inside
the country was permissible, but exporting lethal fallout to the West was
an entirely different matter.
Here was a huge opening for the globalists. The money masters of the world
could now anoint Mother Earth as the official queen before whom all must
kneel. How could one logically disagree in light of Chernobyl? Chernobyl
would be the vehicle to drag the world body of nations into its orbit. It
is an ingenious strategy because no one can object to protecting the planet
from the rot and stench of pollution.
The Rio, or Earth, Summit in Brazil in June 1992 provided an opportunity
for the nations of the world to conform on much more than an environmental
level; its connections to the New Age movement and Masonry are well-established.
Rio was not solely about clean air, clean water, and containment of acid
rain. It was about the massive redistribution of wealth from the industrial
countries to the poor countries, global socialism, people control, and world
government. Lester Brown, president of Worldwatch Institute, said, "I think
when we look back, we will see the Rio conference as the event that marked
the end of an era and the start of a new one."
The operative word again is "conformity"--if a nation stays within the rules
set by the governing bodies, loan applications will be approved. Environmental
compliance is only the first kind of conformity that can be forced on
cash-starved nations needing access to world capital markets.
The environmental movement has clout that transcends all party affiliations.
Vice President Albert Gore is a chief proponent of the movement and has in
fact written a best-selling book on environmentalism. He is the "man of destiny"
in the Clinton administration. Support for his policies exists across the
political spectrum. Data from the Federal Election Commission reveal that
Republican organizations took in contributions of $71.1 million in calendar
year 1988, while Democratic institutions took in $18.6 million the same year.
The Environmental Party had an operating budget of $336 million in 1988 with
a donor base of 10 million persons more than both political parties. The
Environmental Party has nearly four times the funding of the Democrats and
the Republicans combined. Twelve organizations constitute the base support
of the Environmental Party: Center for Marine Conservation, Clean Water Action
Project, Environmental Defense Fund, Greenpeace USA, National Audubon Society,
National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, Nature
Conservancy, Public Interest Research Group, Sierra Club, Wilderness Society,
and World Wildlife Fund. It is only the people on the top who are aware of
the true intent of its members' movements.
The WCPA projects that the formation of the world government will occur sometime
between 1995 and 1998 . When will the Antichrist arrive on the world scene?
All indications are that the stage is set on the secular and religious levels.
Once this world government is in place, the structure for the reign of Antichrist
will be ready . Gary Kah states, "The WCPA effort to form a New World Order
is not based on need but on the hidden agenda of the occult secret societies
to bring the world under their control in order to usher in the reign of
their "World Teacher": the Anti christ."
The World Powers
In history, seldom do events happen by chance. Jim Singer, of Ontario, Canada,
has been receiving messages from Our Lord from May 1989 to September 1989
on a very consistent basis. Since then, the messages have been infrequent.
On May 27, 1993, the Lord spoke to Jim Singer about the role of preplanned
events and the earthly bodies which carry out these plans.
Jesus' first message to Jim was as follows: "Dear children, the time has
come that you can no longer survive without my direct intervention. The one
you call Satan is the Shining Darkness who has poisoned all of your souls
and has deprived you of the dignity with which I gifted each one of My children
. I created each one of you good. To each of you I gifted a whole and pure
soul. Among you, children, there are no more souls which are whole. I am
the truth and there is only one truth." Jesus is telling Jim Singer that
He must intervene or we no longer can survive the onslaught of the devil.
For years, the United Nations has become the enforcement body of the world
rulers. Premiers and presidents of nations will not go against the rulers
of this institution. Who are these men? Most notably, the clout inside the
United Nations is from the Group of Seven (G-7 nations)--the single most
powerful body in the world controlling finance. These nations are the United
States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan--the world's
major industrialized economies. Prime Minister John Major was the chairman
in 1991, coordinating the West's policies toward the economic plight of the
Soviet Union. The former Soviet Union is being given billions of dollars
with the West knowing it can never be repaid. It is now under the world's
financial mantle and in its controlling orbit. No nation today can go against
the strength of this body. Saddam Hussein recently tried. Action was swift
and effective.
"Revelation 13:1-7 states: "Then I saw a beast come out of the sea with ten
horns and seven heads; on its horns were ten diadems, and on its heads
blasphemous names. To it the dragon gave its own power and throne, along
with great authority. I saw that one of its heads seemed to be mortally wounded,
but this wound was healed. Fascinated, the whole world followed after the
beast. They worshipped the dragon because it gave its authority to the beast;
they also worshipped the beast and said, 'Who can compare with the beast
or fight against it?' The beast was given a mouth uttering proud boasts and
blasphemies, and it was given authority to act for forty-two months.... It
was also allowed to wage war against the holy ones and conquer them, and
it was granted authority over every tribe, people, tongue, and nation. All
the inhabitants of the earth will worship it, all whose names were not written
from the foundation of the world in the book of life, which belongs to the
Lamb who was slain."
In concert with Daniel 12, the beast rules for forty-two months. The Black
Beast, Masonry, the one-world government, Antichrist is given dominion over
the earth for this period of time. The one-world government is allowed to
wage war against the holy ones of God and conquer them, even to the point
of abolishing the Holy Mass ("abolishing the perpetual sacrifice," as Daniel
states it). The one-world ruler is given authority over every tribe, people,
tongue, and nation. All inhabitants will worship it. Antichrist will appear
to have the answers for our troubled world.
The role of Russia is unclear in many respects. In the September 18, 1992,
message of Josyp Terelya from Marmora Ontario, Our Lady said that Russia
is preparing for world-wide revolution. Mr. Terelya had seen the face of
Satan in Boris Yeltsin in his 1987 vision--before the coup. Mikhail Gorbachev
has risen to head of the International Green Cross, taking over the environmental
movement with governmental blessing. Isn't this odd? A former premier ousted
in a coup by hardliners now is in the present government. Is Russia a mainstream
player with the world body of the United Nations or an independent international
villain?
On May 27, 1993, the Lord showed Jim Singer that the United Nations is the
vehicle of planned events. Our Lord said: "...Look at what Satan is inflicting
upon you; 326,000 of My children and all the agony which you are seeing today
in your ancestral homeland [Jim originally is from Croatia] alone is just
a prelude of sadistic fury and hate that Satan wants to pour out upon you.
Out of His mercy and grace, the Father has gifted you the Queen of Peace,
yet nations prostitute themselves in the United Nations and My children continue
to pay deep homage to the dead head which now lives again in that city by
the ocean. Know that it is...Satan's own servants who toil tirelessly to
deliver My children into his clutches. Just as they contaminate and poison
so much in your lives, they are the ones also who are overseeing the aims
of that organization--the UN. Know that all their aims, each one of their
moves and actions, are always preplanned. In their labors of deceit, even
truth has become a sweet bait to be exploited by Satan and his earthly stewards.
They lure away even your shepherds, My apostles, along with the entire flocks
of My children.
"Today, as you stand at the threshold, you are the only ones who choose how
much more suffering you must bear. I call My children to hear My mother's
calls, to focus on her. Listen and respond to all that she asks of you. Be
sure that the triumph of her heart is near. It is My mother, your Queen of
Peace, who ardently wishes to show you the way and bring you all back to
Me."
(Authors' note: Josyp Terelya in his Marmora, Ontario, vision, uses this
term "dead head" in reference to the United Nations. Jim's footnote is as
follows: "Our Lord's reference to the United Nations as 'this dead head which
now lives again' is peculiar and puzzling. A number of possible explanations
for this term have been offered, both biblical and non-biblical. Although
this term is not used anywhere in the Bible, there are a number of similar
terms which do appear throughout the Scriptures. Chapter 13, verse 3 of
Revelation makes reference to one of the beast's mortally wounded heads,
but the mortal wound was healed. Even more interestingly, in Chapter 17,
verse 8 of Revelation, the beast is said to 'have existed once and now exists
no longer, and yet it will exist again."'
On January 12, 1991, Our Lord appeared to Jim Singer and gave a message in
which He stated: "The Shining Darkness, that malefactor, is drawing your
attention to the great evil which he threatens you with--the sort of catastrophe
that your minds cannot begin to imagine, while he, in the meantime, is
multiplying his evils in other parts of the world . From the beginning you
have been warned through this, My child, that these two years are the decisive
years for all My children. Through your conversion all of you have been called
into My secure embrace of love. More than half of that time has passed, but
your hearts remain enslaved in thorns of evil. Today you have the choice
of what kind of world you will have after these three days. The evils to
which you will soon be witnesses because of your disobedience and hard hearts
towards Me will multiply among you. You have already been warned about them.
In your apprehension of evil you have taken all the steps to protect yourselves
from the horrors. But few are My children among you who have recognized the
malefactor's hand among you . Three days remain for you, by your free will,
to consecrate your hearts to Me, to enjoy My rewards and victory over the
malefactor. Three days remain for you to allow the malefactor seven years
of his particular aggression and oppression among you. Through the ages you
have been warned what the malefactor is preparing for you during these final
times. Only by your conversion and sincere love will you be protected...."
During the April 22, 1991, apparition of Our Lord to Jim, He told him that,
"Without My intervention you can no longer completely triumph over the evil
one, for My earthly children are surrounded...." with traitors. Even among
those who enjoy the confidence of My earthly children, there are those who
are in the service of Satan. They consciously victimize My flock--their own
brothers and sisters."
Our Lord's message of September 23, 1991, to Jim contained no secrets but
stated in part, "Tell My children of the world to look at the satanic oppression
in your ancestral homeland, for I have already warned you many times about
the evils that this malefactor is preparing for you all. [Concerning the
war in Bosnia]: tell My children to recognize that Satan is attacking My
children of Croatia precisely because I have chosen them to be the model
of My love to all My children of the world. Do you not remember that I have
warned you about the particular aggression that the Shining Darkness desires
to unleash among My children of the Soviet Union? I invite you all--evict
the malefactor from your midst. Fill your hearts with My love. I call you
again, return to My embrace, use My gifts. I will protect you. Satan aggressively
wants to bring his hell into the Soviet Union. Not only will his fury be
unleashed upon My children of that land, but the malefactor will utilize
all his powers from hell to spill his rage from that land, through his earthly
servants, to other lands as well. Son, only because of their firm and complete
faith in Me will My children of Croatia be able to enjoy the victory over
the Shining Darkness. But, precisely because of their faith in Me, these
children will also not be spared from the renewed vicious satanic attempt
with which the malefactor will endeavor to flood, from the USSR, all the
countries of the east. While they are convinced that they are enjoying liberty
and freedom, Satan's rage will not spare My children of the Western world,
either. Never have My children delighted in sin as now. In Noah's age, I
cleansed the world of sins much lesser than these in which my children now
take delight. Today many of My children's enjoyment is murderous sin. Many
of My children are fully conscious of this. The faith of many who remain
in My flock is lukewarm ."
Jim stated: "In one of my conversations with the Lord, I asked the Lord to
explain Revelation. The Lord's answer to this question was that the dragon
with seven heads and ten horns now dwells in our world. The Lord said, "Look
to the West."'
On May 28, 1992, Our Lord told Jim: "Babylon, too, has been rebuilt. It stands
again. Soon in your midst and in full view will also stand a grand image
(statue) of a false god. The symbol of this image will be worshipped by many,
in almost every language.... The beast has laid his vicious seven heads in
the lands that you know as the G-7, while its body continues to crush My
children in Russia ."
On January 13, 1991, Jim also was shown that Satan, the malefactor, is allowed
seven years of aggression and opposition. This brings us to the year 1998.
This corresponds with the decisive period often years separating us from
the end of this century, revealed in Our Blessed Mother's message to Father
Gobbi on September 18, 1988, in which she said: "there will come to completion
that fullness of time beginning with LaSalette all the way to my most recent
and present apparitions; the purification will come to its culmination; there
will come to completion the time of the great tribulation, foretold in Holy
Scripture, before the Second Coming of Christ; the mystery of iniquity, prepared
for by the ever-increasing spread of apostasy, will become manifest; all
the secrets which I have revealed to some of my children will come to pass
and all the events which have been foretold will take place."
This also corresponds with the period of time for the onset of the events
(revealed by God the Father to Eileen George) beginning between 1990 and
1999. Then there would be a long era of peace.
Our Blessed Mother told the Marian Movement of Priests on June 17, 1989,
that, "Lucifer, the ancient serpent, the devil or Satan, the Red Dragon,
becomes, in these last times, the Antichrist. The Apostle John already affirmed
that whoever denies that Jesus Christ is God, that person is the Antichrist.
The statue or idol, built in honor of the beast to be adored by all men,
is the Antichrist...666 indicated thrice, that is to say, for the third time,
expresses the year 1998, nineteen hundred and ninety-eight. In this period
of history, Freemasonry, assisted by its Ecclesiastical form, will succeed
in its great design: that of setting up an idol to be put in the place of
Christ and his Church, a false christ and a false church. Consequently, the
statue built in honor of the first beast, to be adored by all the inhabitants
of the earth and which will seal with its mark all those who want to buy
or sell, is that of the Antichrist. You will have thus arrived at the peak
of the purification, of the great tribulation and of apostasy....almost all
will follow the false christ and the false church. Then the door will be
open for the appearance of...the very person of the Antichrist."

Good Lord! What in heaven's name is that?

We are in Baghdad in 1991, and something strange is happening. A hush falls
over the city as a huge shimmering face materialises in the sky. Soldiers
and citizens prostrate themselves as each hears the voice of Allah, commanding
them to overthrow the evil and treacherous Saddam Hussein. Within minutes
an angry mob is storming the palace as the guards flee ...
This highly imaginative scenario was proposed by US Air Force (USAF) planners
for a bloodless victory in the Gulf conflict. The idea of putting words in
God's mouth is not new. In the second century AD Lucian described a statue
of the god Aesculapius that spoke to believers, aided by a hidden priest
with a speaking tube.
The Baghdad plan involved projecting a giant hologram over Iraq. This kind
of projection requires a mirror behind it. The scale of the project dictated
a mirror several kilometres across up in space. So far the largest mirror
developed has been 30 metres wide and present versions are too small to produce
a convincing image at ground level.
Another approach would be to make a mirror out of thin air. When warm air
lies on top of cold air, the difference in density is enough to bend light.
At higher altitudes, a mirage can make whole landscapes appear in the sky.
An artificial mirage could in theory be made by heating the atmosphere with
radio waves or microwaves.
The military certainly appears to believe in the potential use of holograms.
A USAF think-tank has devised uses ranging from deceptive holographic imaging
to the Star Trek-sounding distortion field projector. These are described
as useful for strategic deception purposes, particularly against an
unsophisticated adversary. They would be projected by a special aircraft,
an airborne hologram projector.
Perhaps the nearest current equivalent is the Commando Solo, a modified Hercules
festooned with aerials and antennae and carrying pods of classified electronics.
It can transmit across the electromagnetic spectrum, including radio and
television signals.
The face of God needs a voice. A new technique using microwaves could produce
this. When a high-power microwave pulse strikes the human body, a small
temperature disturbance occurs, causing an expansion of tissue that can create
an acoustic wave. A report from the USAF scientific advisory board says:
"With a pulse stream, an internal acoustic field of 5-15KHz can be created
which is audible. Thus it may be possible to 'talk' to adversaries in a way
which would be most disturbing to them."
The practical difficulties in microwave transmission are formidable. The
exact sound perceived depends on the size and shape of the hearer's skull
and orientation to the source. Microwaves can be reflected or dampened by
solid objects, so God's voice could have the underwater quality of poor radio
reception. And would you believe in a God whose voice drops off when you
walk behind a lamp-post?
But there were other problems with the plan. Images of Allah are forbidden
in Islam. How can you project an image of God when nobody knows what He is
supposed to look like?
And the citizens of Baghdad are not superstitious savages, prone to fleeing
at the sound of a disembodied voice from a gramophone. They have been exposed
to years of computer-generated imagery and flashy special effects. If God's
image did appear in the heavens, someone would be bound to suggest it was
all done with mirrors.

Mary 'appears' near Elian

A cloud-like image believed by some to be an apparition of the Virgin Mary
graced the window pane of a Miami bank located just blocks from the home
of Elian Gonzalez Saturday -- stopping traffic and offering hope to hundreds
of supporters who want to keep the Cuban boy here.
Bank employees first spotted the luminous reflection -- capped by an iridescent
mixture of gold, purple and green -- earlier this week. As word of the vision
spread, and the colors failed to fade with repeated cleanings, the entrance
of Totalbank, 468 NW 27th Ave., has come to resemble a shrine.
On Saturday, women with curlers still in their hair hastily dropped their
chores to pay homage to the Virgin. They were joined by families in sport-utility
vehicles with camcorders and others on their way home from weddings and grocery
stores.
Some people rubbed their babies against the window pane for good luck. Others
scrubbed the surface with paper towels to see if they could make the image
go away.
Tessy Lopez, 62, of Miami Beach beamed with joy as she regarded the apparition.
Like many others gathered at the site, Lopez said she considered it to be
a sign of an impending miracle for Elian, the 6-year-old Cuban rafter who
survived a voyage that killed his mother and 10 others.
''I think that boy is blessed. Many people gave their lives for that boy,
and he lives blocks from here,'' Lopez said. ''We must realize this is an
important sign.''
Louise Molina, 47, of Fontainebleau described the vision this way: ''I can
see that she has a golden glow above her head, and she is looking down. To
me that means sadness.''
Molina said there is an obvious desire by many to regard the apparition as
a symbol of hope for Elian. But she believed it has broader meaning.
''She wants us to change our ways,'' Molina said. ''When people have faith
they do good things.''
Not everyone was able to distinguish the Virgin from the cloudy reflection.
''I see the reflections, but I don't see it,'' said Carmen Rodriguez, 50,
with a tinge of disappointment. ''I think some people can see it and others
not. Perhaps it's based on necessity.''
Eulalia Asencio, 29, expressed skepticism. She said she had carefully touched
the window pane to see if air conditioning might have caused the image
to appear.
''It looks like when you get Windex and then you have that rainbow action
going on,'' Asencio said. ''I really think it is the reflection of the light.''
A few blocks away, Armando Gutierrez, the spokesman for Elian's Miami relatives,
said he had driven past the bank building but had not stopped to see for
himself.
''All signs are good signs,'' said Gutierrez, who described Elian's great-uncle,
Lazaro Gonzalez, and his family as ''very religious.''
One day after the Immigration and Naturalization Service issued a new ultimatum
to the family to agree to a speedy appeal of the custody dispute over the
boy,Gutierrez said Elian's defense team still had not met to discuss their
response. The family plans to appeal a federal judge's decision last week
upholding the INS decision to send the boy back to his father in Cuba.
Lead attorney Spencer Eig is Jewish and working on a Saturday would violate
his religious beliefs, Gutierrez said.
''We cannot discuss the letter until sundown [Saturday],'' Gutierrez said.
Some 50 Elian supporters camped outside the boy's home said they were on
a state of ''high alert'' awaiting word from exile leaders on when to mobilize
a civil disobedience campaign in Miami.
Among the actions already under way: a petition drive and lots of praying,
said Felisa Torre, who packed sandwiches and a beach chair to make her vigil
outside the home more comfortable.
''We are praying so that the heart of Señorita [Janet] Reno will become
sweeter and she will see that Elian is a poor boy who cannot go back to Cuba,''
Torre said, referring to the U.S. attorney general.
